Should Thailand Be Doing More in the Eastern Economic Corridor?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the EEC or the Eastern Economic Corridor. I thought about making this video after reading a recent article from CNBC, that is CNBC.com, the article is titled: Southeast Asia's worst performing stock market is UBS's 'top pick'. Quoting directly: "Thailand also needs to reinvest in infrastructure and rebuild at a faster rate, said Tay." (This is some analyst. I would really like to know where this person is at physically too.) "The country had plans to build up infrastructure on its eastern seaboard side via new ports and airports, but "that hasn't really happened at this point," according to Tay."
Yeah, I read this article, I did another video on another segment in this article. Some of this article was really interesting and I thought really on point, this one not so much. Again, "hasn't really happened to this point", have you been down to the Eastern Economic area? The three provinces Chachoengsao, Chonburi and Rayong and over to Laem Chabang Port? Laem Chabang Port facility is practically a city unto itself. I'm not saying they are done either; I'm not saying be complacent; I'm not saying that more improvement isn't needed but hey look Eastern Economic Corridor is coming along, there isn't any doubt about. The infrastructure development in Thailand, especially the last three years has been very acute not only up here in the Bangkok metro area where we have seen a massive explosion in terms of light rail which has really knitted together the city in a way that has really changed it fundamentally, but they are also still working on the airport links, rail systems to connect with other countries and then this Eastern Economic Corridor which is going to kind of be, it looks to me like it is going to be set up as a sort of trade entrepôt if you will.
Yeah if anything I think that, yes always more is better, ever forward as it were, but look, credit where credit is due, a lot has been done down there and it's a lot that has been done for the better.
