The Sky Is the Limit for Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor?

 Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Eastern Economic Corridor, the EEC as it is called here in Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Nation, that's nationthailand.com, the article is titled: Cabinet approves operational plan for trillion-Baht EEC Smart City project. Quoting directly: "The Cabinet on Tuesday approved the operational plan for a 1.35 trillion Baht business hub and Smart City project in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Government Spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek said." Quoting further: "This is the fifth infrastructure megaproject in the EEC, following the high-speed railway link between three airports, the expansion of U-tapau airport, Map Ta Phut Industrial Port phase 3, and Laem Chabang Port phase 3."

I want to read this again, because this is staggering how much infrastructure is really coming into existence here. Quoting directly: "This is the fifth infrastructure megaproject in the EEC, following the high-speed railway link between three airports, the expansion of U-tapau airport, Map Ta Phut Industrial Port phase 3, and Laem Chabang Port phase 3." Man that is a lot. They are really, really improving the infrastructure in the EEC.

Quoting further: "The 10 year smart city project will be divided into three phases.

First Phase, (2023-2027) the business and financial hub plus Government and residential complexes will be constructed on 5,795 rai of land, (40% of the whole project). Under the second phase, 2028-2029, the business hub will be expanded and a medical center built on 4,250 Rai of land, (29%). The final phase 2030 - 2032, will see the remaining 4,570 rai (31%) developed as commercial and residential complexes to accommodate the growing population."

So it looks like it is pretty well planned. It looks like they are anticipating this area to become a major entrepôt between, probably I would guess Southern Asia most notably India, East Africa, the Middle East as well and then also East Asia, especially Northeast Asia, so Thailand is kind of becoming a hub for lack of a better term. I suspect this will probably occur not only in a maritime context but probably in terms of air travel and air logistics not to mention ground travel. As we have discussed in many other videos, they are constructing a number of high speed rail networks. It's all going to kind of converge between Bangkok and this Eastern Economic Corridor and then it is going to interact with not only the port but the overland routes over to the Andaman. Just generally speaking this is kind of the spoke in the middle of the wheel so to speak of Southeast Asia in terms of a major logistical, possibly financial and business hub and then the spoke in the wheel, the spider at the center of the web as it were, I mean major stuff is really happening in the Eastern Economic Corridor and I think when we are looking back at the end of this, when this is supposedly all completed come the end of this decade, we are probably going to look back and say "wow! that was built at breakneck speed, it was a major, major improvement to the overall infrastructure of that particular location" and I suspect it is going to have substantial upside benefits for the business sector here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
