Small Businesses in Thailand Encouraged to Export?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing SMEs in Thailand, small businesses and exporting. This is something, we do have some clients that are in the import-export business, trading companies, things of this nature. But, especially over the past couple of years, export has been kind of a tricky thing especially with all the weird Emergency Decree protocols and things, so when I was reading this article, I thought it would be a good idea to make a video. The article is titled: SMEs urged to look beyond Thailand. This is from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com. I really urge folks who are watching this video, go check out that article for yourself, a lot of good information in there. I am going to quote a small excerpt here. Quoting directly: "The courage to venture to overseas frontiers and easier access to loans are the key factors to facilitate small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) becoming exporters, according to lenders and industry leaders. Rak Vorrakitpokatorn, President of the Export-Import Bank of Thailand, (EXIM Thailand) said only a few of the 3 million SMEs succeed in becoming exporters, mainly because of their hesitance in venturing away from home turf to compete abroad."

Yeah look, I can kind of understand that. You are already dealing with the regulatory landscape here in Thailand that is rather complex, let's say at the best of times. Then meanwhile, like sort of moving into an export-based business, I can totally see where that's a pretty daunting thing.

That said, let's take a look at where things stand geo-economically right now. The United States and the West are massively restructuring their supply chains. Meanwhile, East Asia is changing in many, many ways. What Halford Mackinder called the World Island and that is sort of Eurasia, the entirety of Eurasia, is essentially reorganizing itself at a very rapid rate. So I think Thailand and SMEs here in Thailand, could greatly benefit from looking at the export sector because Thailand is in a very advantageous position when it comes to doing business in this part of the world not only geographically, but diplomatically. It's got good relations with virtually all of the major economic players; I can't think of anybody Thailand doesn't have good relations with in that regard, and it's got sound infrastructure, major port facilities. Again in many, many ways Thailand could end up being a major powerhouse with respect to not only the service sector and some of these sort of more cutting edge bio-tech, technology sector that Thailand is trying to encourage, but just good old-fashioned exporting could be something that could be a major benefit to the economy here in the Kingdom of Thailand in the rather near future.
