Is Songkran Thailand's St. Patrick's Day?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are asking the question, "Is Songkran Thailand's St. Patrick's Day?" I did another video where I compared it to Mardi Gras but I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Thai Examiner, that is thaiexaminer.com, the article is titled: Thailand wants far more US Canadian tours as long-haul visitors spend twice as much. Quoting directly under the sub-heading: New Chicago office in America to promote Songkran. Quoting directly: "It could promote the government's plans for 'Songkran All-Month'. This initiative is from the Government's powerful new soft power committee. It will be a rebranded celebration of Thailand's New Year festival. In any case the theme is Amazing Thailand New Year month. Thailand is looking at using the Thai community in the United States in a similar way that Ireland does for St. Patrick's Day."

Yeah interesting. As I said, I compared this to Mardi Gras in the past. People have kind of asked, "why are you making this kind of a big deal?" Well I think Songkran is kind of a big deal and I think it is a good idea by this Government to push the initiative of Songkran as kind of Thailand's festival if you will, sort of the way again St Patrick's day, you could look at it that way; Mardi Gras down in New Orleans. It is just a, in this case nationality specific festival and I think it could be a major benefit to Thailand and we are getting on, we will be in April soon enough here in Thailand and April is Songkran month and it would be I think a good thing to see a major celebration, even on an international level, associated with Songkran.

For those who are unaware, yeah Songkran is a really big holiday here and I am hoping it becomes kind of another inflection point if you will for tourism throughout the year. As of now we have like one big high season time which we are currently in as of the time of this video and then we kind of go into, yeah Songkran has always provided a bit of a spike in tourism but it would be really nice to have effectively a sort of second high season here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
