Thai-Lao-Chinese High Speed Rail Update
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Thai-Lao-Chinese Railway or the proposed one. It has been in discussion for a long time; it is kind of, well not kind of, it is under construction at the moment.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: China-Laos-Thailand rail link plans up for talks. Quoting directly: "The station is 7.5 km away from the Thanaleng railway station which connects with Thailand's Nong Khai Province. The Government is currently developing the Nong Khai Railway Station to become a cross-border goods inspection centre and a link from train to land transport." So there is going to kind of be this depot set up between the Lao high-speed coming into the Thailand high-speed system. All of this is presently under construction.
This will have a tremendous impact I suspect not only on logistics and trade between Thailand and the rest of Asia, most notably China and the rest of Southeast Asia I would imagine as well, but it also has really well serious ramifications or substantial I should say ramifications associated with social issues it in Thailand because I have a pretty good idea that this is going to have a massive impact in terms of Tourism, again cross-border communications, cross-border trade. I think it is safe to say that this could be a sea change in terms of how Thailand interacts with the rest of the business community here in Southeast Asia. It remains to be seen exactly how this is going to play out or when this high speed rail is going to come online, but we will certainly keep you updated on this channel as a situation evolves.
