Thai Nightlife "Should Start Gearing Up for the Opening Soon"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Thai nightlife sector. People have actually asked me here recently why in the past roughly 6 months I have actually been discussing this far more. Really this channel is primarily legal analysis but unfortunately legality if you will or public policy has gotten into the entertainment business essentially. It is having this overarching impact on the entertainment business.

Case and point, a recent article from Bloomberg, bloomberg.com, Thailand Prepares to Reopen Bars as Foreign Tourists Return. Quoting directly: "Thailand is clearing the way for the reopening of bars and pubs as it lures more vaccinated tourists with quarantine-free entry ahead of the peak holiday season." Quoting further: "Operators should "start gearing up for the opening soon" by vaccinating workers and meeting the COVID safety standards, Taweesilp Visanuyothin, a spokesman for the nation's main virus task force said after a meeting in Bangkok on Friday. While no date has yet been set for the reopening, the Government rescinded an earlier order keeping the bars closed until Jan 16." Well that is kind of nebulous and Bloomberg, I don't think is as in the loop maybe as others are. It appears that that still stands, January 16th. There is still talk that it could open sooner; things could ease up sooner. For now here in Bangkok, restaurants are allowed to serve alcohol but bars etc. as well the entertainment sector are not currently able to reopen. Now hopefully that changes sooner rather than later.

People have asked me “why are you so stuck on this?” Well I know a lot of people and we have a lot of clients that are either directly involved in the food and beverage industry especially or sort of knock on impacted by this sort of indirectly, for example vendors of various different types; people that sell beverages or wholesale food distributors, whatever. There are a lot of people that are affected by this and they are doing this ostensibly under legal authority and it is having a dramatic impact and not for the better. The economic impact is really staggering and it is really having a negative impact on folks in the economy. So that is why we talk about it. I would like to just get back to talking legal analysis again notwithstanding the fact I think we will probably get less notice on this channel when we when we are not talking about this anymore. But I would like to go back to just talking about Immigration Policy and legal analysis, things like that but for now I mean really kind of the hot button legal analysis right now is this sector so I am going to comment on it at least for the foreseeable future.
