Thai PM Stands Firm on Border Integrity?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the PM, the Prime Minister here in Thailand's stance on border security. I've been discussing this topic pretty well in earnest for going on about 2 weeks now, because as I discussed in a prior video, there has been a major paradigm shift within the establishment if you will here in Thailand regarding the issue of immigration, sort of in a general sense, but specifically with regard to border security.

As we have discussed in other videos, they are putting up a pretty substantial barrier now between Thailand and Cambodia especially in the aftermath of the conflict here this summer and this recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, would seem to confirm the continuation of that trend. The article is titled: PM defends border tactics. Now I urge those who are watching this video, go check out that article in detail to find out exactly the ins and outs and the details of what is going on with respect to the initiatives being undertaken by authorities here in Thailand, as well as the measures: things like again the border wall if you want to call it that, that is being constructed along the Thai-Cambodian border, as well as other discussions going on between personnel here in Thailand and over in Cambodia to hopefully de-escalate this situation and get things back to a workable place I guess is the right way to think of that.

That said, there seems to be some concern regarding this from some quarters especially in the international sector, which brings me to this excerpt, again from the article, PM defends border tactics, Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, quoting directly: "When asked whether such tactics might damage Thailand's standing on the international stage, Mr. Anutin replied: "We are safeguarding our sovereignty".  And frankly, that's all I think really needs to be said on this. Anybody that has been keeping track of this issue going into, especially the past summer, look, lives were lost due to projectiles going from Cambodia into Thailand; people had to be evacuated. It placed a great number of people in a very bad position to say nothing of the issues of legality, let alone sovereignty. I think Mr. Anutin has a good point.

For those in the international arena who may take issue with what Thailand is doing, again we are safeguarding our sovereignty. I think that is well put and that's succinctly some things up. Thailand has had these issues. It is taking measures to counteract them to mitigate any problems that may arise as a result of this moving into the future. That said, exactly how this plays out remains to be seen, and we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
