Thailand's "EEC Project to Drive the City Towards a Sustainable Future"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor or EEC which makes up three provinces in the Eastern part of Thailand; notably Chachoengsao, Chonburi and Rayong make up this Eastern Economic Corridor. I've done a number of videos recently or over the past couple of years on this EEC, how it has created a new Economic Zone. It operates very similarly to the Board of Investment, the BOI here in Thailand; it's very, very similar insofar as being able to grant certain business and tax concessions if you are doing business within the Corridor.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from The Pattaya News, that is thepattayanews.com, the article is titled: Thai and Chinese Business Executives explore NEO Pattaya and EEC projects. Quoting directly: "The group, consisting of 72 members was welcomed by Mr. Teerasak Chatupong, Chief of the Pattaya City Office. He gave a presentation on the "NEO Pattaya: A new Pattaya Caring for All" initiative, which focuses on advancing progress in 4 key areas: Economy, Society, Environment and Culture. The initiative aims to establish a new economic foundation for Pattaya, aligning with the EEC project to drive the city towards a sustainable future."
I don't like the term sustainable, the way it's sort of used ubiquitously now. It's almost like a buzz word because it was a useful term; it provided a great deal of context as to what we were talking about but it seems to be sort of expropriated if you will by the WEF types to discuss, I don't know, something different. In this case though yes I think it's a good thing that Pattaya gets in alignment with the EEC because I think it's going to end up becoming not quite the capital if you will of the EEC, but it's the major urban center there. So at the end of the day, I think that Pattaya and the EEC together are going to be a powerhouse in terms of trade, in terms of Tourism, as time goes on and we see these rail systems come online and then presumably eventually connect into the Land Bridge system that is being created to allow Thailand to be a sort of entrepôt for trade in the Southeast Asia sort of Straits of Malacca region.
Again these are big developments and a lot of the action is happening in Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor.
