Tracking System for Cannabis Sales in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Cannabis in Thailand yet again. Cannabis has been a major topic as it has been a major change with respect to Thai Law. We have also seen a sea change with respect to the economic impact cannabis is having with respect to the overall Thai economy, as well as the business community here in Thailand but things are moving rather rapidly on this so it's why we are kind of keeping track of it.

To quote a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Vendor's pot bud sales to be monitored. Quoting directly: "The Public Health Ministry is allowing Cannabis buds to be sold by more than 5,000 licensed vendors nationwide next month, with vendors' and buyers' information to be sent to the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB)." Quoting further: "Thongchai Lertwilairattanapong, of the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine (DTAM), said yesterday that those who want to sell Cannabis buds, designated as a controlled herb, must first obtain permission from the Department." Quoting further: "When customers buy Cannabis buds, they must insert their ID card into a device linked with the DTAM's system." Quoting further: "From this, required information can be checked and forwarded to the INCB, Dr Thongchai said." Quoting further: "The system is expected to be in place next month, he said, adding that there are about 5,000 vendors licensed to sell Cannabis and Cannabis products nationwide."

As we have discussed in another video made contemporaneously with this one, Thai Authorities, specifically the Police, have actually taken steps to crack down on those who are operating Cannabis Business without a controlled herb license and they are arresting people as we discussed in the prior video. Now another thing to keep in mind is again and this shouldn't be something that comes as any kind of a surprise because most of the other jurisdictions that have allowed legalization of this product there has been sort of a chain of custody if you will and frankly in other jurisdictions it has been quite rigid. Thailand has been quite lax at the outset of this so for this to be brought online wasn't really a surprise to me, this initiative to sort of track and trace sales. Again they also want to make sure that everybody who is buying this product is most assuredly over the age of 20 here in Thailand as no one wants children to be involved in these transactions in any way for obvious reasons.

But, the thing to take away from this video is yes indeed it is legal in Thailand but there is a tracking system and a licensing system so those who are looking to enter this business space if you will, need to be careful.
