Well, Apparently China Is Getting Something Right
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, it looks like the Chinese got something right. You know I'll be the first to say, I have been a little hard on China on this channel from time to time, and look, I felt like it was warranted especially when they thought that it was a good idea to put their police on our streets down here. I was a little vocal on that one. Overall though and it might have something to do with the fact that I'm actually, full disclosure, I'm going to be in China for about a week, so those who are dealing with the firm, you will probably be aware of this due to us having up notifications on our email that yeah, I'm not going to be in Thailand for about a week. I'm going to China for a personal matter, but I am open-minded. I love Chinese history. Anybody that has ever watched this channel knows I'm not a big fan of Communist ideology, but it's their country, it's not mine; I'm not interested in telling other people how to live. If that is what they want to do that's fine. I'm very, very looking forward to seeing China culturally. From a cultural standpoint I'm very optimistic, and I'm looking to have a good time up there.
But the reason for this video is because I have been hard on China in the past, and they actually seem to have gotten something right, while the West can't seem to figure out - I could say things hyperbolically but I won't - on a topic that should concern us all, and that is basically the general welfare of children okay, and China is getting something right. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from english.news.cn, and it's from - I never know how to pronounce this, is it Chin Cha News or Chin Xua News? I've heard it Chin Cha so I'll call it that. In any event, the article is titled: China executes 3 convicted of sex crimes against minors. Again, I think with due process - everybody is entitled to a fair trial, innocent until proven guilty, and there should be laws on the books of these things. I think I was reading the other day that Idaho now has passed a law that says that they will execute child sex offenders by firing squad, and I felt, hey modern problems require modern solutions; it's kind of one of those things. That said, in fact you know what, we'll put old Dave Chappelle into thumbnail for this video. Modern problems require modern solutions. That said, quoting directly: "Three sex offenders convicted of sexually assaulting minors were executed in China on Friday, according to an official statement from the Supreme People's Court, the country's highest court." I actually saw this on Twitter too the other day. That said, quoting further: "The SPC, which approved the death sentences, emphasized that the sentencing and subsequent executions reflect China's unwavering commitment to eliminating sexual abuse of minors and serve as a deterrent for potential perpetrators." And they go on to talk about the background of the people that were subject to execution. I don't want to get into all of that and certainly my thoughts, prayers and everything go out to the victims of these things.
But look, we have got to take a hard line on this. And I don't know what the heck is going on back in the United States especially with our law enforcement apparatus, and not seeming to want to really pick up their feet and get anything much done with regard to a bunch of files that dropped that clearly implicate - yeah I get it there are people in very highest levels, but at the end of the day, civilizations are judged by how fiercely they protect their young. I thought I was quoting Mel Gibson on that; I saw him, what I thought was him, put something to that effect up on Twitter, and then I think it got erased or something, but I love that line, "by how fiercely they protect their young." At the end of the day that's what has got to be done. I mean Thailand has its own way of dealing with it, but this seems to be China's way of dealing with it. Civilized Societies simply will not accept that the young and the innocent are targeted by predators; that is just unreasonable on any metric.
So it's good to see that from China. It's going to be interesting to see what's going on, to quote Khe Sahn, the song by old Cold Chisel, "I’m drifting north to check things out again. So be interesting to see what China is like, and I'll certainly be reporting on my thoughts after I get back.
