Where Precisely Is the Benefit of the "ThaID App"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are asking the question, 'what is the purpose of this so-called ThaiID app. Where's the benefit to anybody? I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that's bangkokpost.com. ThaiID eases check-in for flights. Quoting directly: "The government said Thai nationals can use the ThaiID app to present a valid digital identification card when checking in for flights to ease travel hassles during the busy New Year season." Yeah neat. We all have a Thai ID card. What do we need this extra app for? What is that adding to anything? Honestly, I'm really tired of this. I'm tired of this, it's this presumption that all things digital make everything better. It doesn't. Meanwhile, it's my opinion it is just a giant, you know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of when everybody came out and said, 'oh you can't have plastic bags anymore. No bags will be giving out anywhere in Thailand.' It wasn't a law; it wasn't anything. That is why I have been so mad with the media frankly since that incident and I should have seen COVID coming more because they beta tested a lot of the nonsensical stuff that they used in COVID and a lot of the methodologies they used in COVID to make us all think a) there was some legal mandate; there wasn't and b) that it was somehow for the greater good and it wasn't, and in reality, it was just to profit major corporations because what do we see in the aftermath of the bag rule? They started charging you for bags, where in the past, bags had just, it was part of their service. That was part of their overhead that they needed to provide you as a customer. But in the aftermath of their little chicanery, now we're all used to paying for our bags. That's the kind of things that they do.

This is the kind of nonsense I'm talking about with this ThaiID app. We all have a national ID. Why does it need to be put onto an app? And why can't we just plug our cards; it's got an RFID chip in it. Why can't we just put our card into some machine and you spit out the ticket? Why do we need this app? Why do we need all this extra digital bureaucracy to just live our basic lives? Quoting further: "Checking in for a flight at Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi Airports for instance is more convenient with the help of the app, especially when used together with an airline's online check-in service." How? You still have to go through all of the actual checkpoints, so what are we talking about? - "Jira Houngsub, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office. Online check-in can also be done via the Airports of Thailand website, he said." This is another one: "Go to our website". I'm so sick of hearing that. Just do your jobs; stop trying to get rid of all accountability and the need to do work by putting everything onto a website or an app. That's all this ever looks like to me. Quoting further: "Passengers can then proceed to the flight gate with an electronically issued boarding pass.." - that they can already get and just use their ID to get it, so what does this app do again? Quoting further: "Which helps shorten the time usually required for queuing up in a check-in, he said." Yeah, except you still have to queue, except now you queue at another thing, in order to get your digital thing, in order to get into the queue. For those who speak American English like civilized people, they mean line, getting into line. Quoting further: "A new automated biometric identification system.." - a new automated biometric identification system! So they are going to digitally tag you and then tag it on to a digital ID, when we already have National ID, okay? We have already got this documentation; I have a national ID card. All my biometrics are in there; all of my stuff is in there. Why do we need this thing now? Quoting further: "..now used at airports, also allows passengers to quickly pass through the boarding pass checking process, he said."

You know what is happening here? They are creating an increasingly inconvenient line for those of us who want our privacy and an increasingly convenient line for all the sheep who are perfectly happy to process through and have no thought of what the Government is doing with this information and documentation. That's what's happening. I've done the video on this before: "the road to hell is paved with convenience"! This is one more example of that. I hope it just gets rolled back; I myself will just try to ignore it for as long as I possibly can. That being said and as this evolves, we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel.
