Why Facial Recognition Is So Pernicious

Transcript of the above video:

We have been talking about Facial Recognition technology and Biometrics and things associated with facial recognition a lot lately, most notably because Thai banking, the system seems to have become this Orwellian nightmare requiring all of this stuff.

That said, I thought it was worth pointing out - okay, so I found this because I was on Twitter and somebody put up over here at HARROUNFILTERED put up a tweet that said @truthstreamnews, you guys nailed it. Now I know the folks, Aaron and Melissa over at Truth Stream, tip of the hat to you two. You guys have been talking about this stuff for a long time. I'll put a link in the description below to their channel over on YouTube. But that said this Tweet then quoted Silkie Carlo. Quoting directly: Big brother Watch exists to protect us all from people like Shabana Mahmood. This is a jaw-dropping interview on her "ultimate vision". Now bear in mind, this is the UK Home Secretary that is being interviewed here, okay. So I'm going to go ahead and quote this, quoting directly: Quote: "When I was in justice, my ultimate vision for that part of the criminal justice system was to achieve, by means of AI and technology, what Jeremy Bentham tried to do with his Panopticon." - Anybody that knows a Bentham's Panopticon, it's a prison. It's like the perfect prison and it's terrifying. It's a prison where at any moment somebody could be watching you but might not necessarily be watching you, and therefore you self-regulate and self-censorship accordingly. It's beyond totalitarian. I don't even know what that is. Hell is probably a pretty good description. That said, quoting further: "That is that the eyes of the state can be on you at all times."

Think about that. That's the Home Secretary of the UK saying "the eyes of the state can be on you at all times". I don't want that. Who wants that? Especially a state that can say "oh this is a disease now that you have to do all this stuff you never had to do before, and we can tell you all what to do", even though there really wasn't much of a threat from that disease. And it now turns out that most of this was all hokum or that, "hey you have got to go take this experimental gene therapy that we're now calling a vaccine, because we say so". To all those people around the world, "if you're not doing anything wrong'" if you're dealing with the state that is that totalitarian, they can change the definition of right and wrong and punish you accordingly. That's the creepy part of all of this, beyond even the tech and the people that talk about this like it's some great thing. Quoting further: "Similarly, in the world of policing in particular, we've already been rolling out live facial recognition technology." Yeah, like in the banking system out here in Thailand. This stuff is just, it's wrong, it's morally wrong. When did the banks get the right to have your facial biometrics and why? To get access to your own money? Or some money that other people want to send you? Banks are a business. They are a platform to allow us more efficient mechanisms to do business or to save our money. They are not here to be our Nanny-minders and tell us all what to do. Quoting further: "But I think there is a big space here for being able to harness the power of AI and Tech to get ahead of the criminals frankly which is what we're trying to do." Oh yeah, but you are going to define who is a criminal, which by the way, the UK's definition of a criminal at this point is ridiculous. I mean the bar is so low as to be crazy. Facebook posts and tweets and stuff are getting people arrested in the UK. So you'll forgive me if I have a dismissive attitude over what you consider to be "criminal"!

Quoting further: "Bentham, an 18th century philosopher and social theorist promoted the Panopticon as a circular prison with a central inspection tower from which a single guard could observe all inmates all the time while unseen." And then, quoting further: "Ms. Mahmood told MPs that AI was an "incredibly powerful tool that can and should be used by our police forces" but said it needed to be regulated in a way that was "always accurate". Huh? "Guidelines for its use are expected to be set out in her white paper on police reform."

Boy, I'm really looking forward to that one, the White Paper; I mean it's up there with the National Emergency Decree of 1932 Germany. The White Paper on Police Reform. Wow, just wow. Is this really where we're going in the West? Because it's so disingenuous that it causes one to just be upset by that alone. But that actually takes away from the fact of how scary this is. This is the UK talking about this stuff kind of flippantly and nonchalantly; it's like talking about putting in new parking metres downtown. "Oh yeah, we're going to have facial recognition; we're going to build this Panopticon. Quoting further: "As Justice Secretary, Ms. Mahmood proposed a major expansion of GPS tagging of criminals to create "virtual prisons" for offenders punished in the community. Since moving to the Home Office, she has announced a planned nationwide rollout of police-operated live facial recognition cameras." How is that any different from totalitarian China and their social credit score. Please Thailand, and America if you're listening, but Thailand, please, this is where this is heading. Is this how we all want to live as Thais? This is not the Thailand I signed on to; this is not the Thailand I naturalized to. That Thailand believed in the inherent liberty of being Thai. Thai means "free"; it's not free when your face is scanned and they can track and trace you everywhere you go to create "virtual prisons".

I pray that this never gets to the shores over here and that is why I make these videos. That being said, we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
