As the title of this video suggests we are discussing "Will Thailand really re-open in October?" I am not going to quote any source material here; there is a lot out there. There are folks talking about "oh it is going to happen" and then "well, we may have to relook at it", and all of this.

What I would say to folks right now is I am making this right here at the end of July, it is a long way to October. We have got August and September. If we were to go back all the way through July back to the beginning of June, we had a very different outlook on how things were going to look moving forward at that point. So I don't think anybody should take anything right now as an absolute foregone conclusion. I am hoping that we adhere to what the Prime Minister here in Thailand had said which was "we want to get this thing reopened by October and just start moving on" and I hope we do that. Now whether or not that will happen remains to be seen. I don't know what is going to happen in the meantime but I don't think the question should be "will we?" I think what we should be looking at is look there are two months between here and there, what can we do to ensure it happens is probably a better question. 

I have made some videos on this channel I am pretty critical at this point. I have serious concerns that lockdowns may not provide the benefit to offset the massive economic downturn that has come as a result of implementing them. I think my views on that are pretty plain and reasonable people can disagree but to me you when you look at an absolute really just decimation of the economy versus the death numbers, we don't want to see anybody die but a lot of people can die from economic deprivation as well, so we have to look at this. It is a multifaceted issue. Do I think it is a good idea that we stay in lockdown all the way to October and through October? No I don't, it is really not my opinion at all. Do I think things could turn around in August and September of 2021? Yes and I hope that they do. We will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation progresses.
