Yes, Gambling Is Still (Mostly) Illegal in Thailand...

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing gambling in Thailand. Now I have discussed this in the context of recent legislative initiatives here in Thailand, discussing the possibility of legalization of gambling and how that would work, but as of right now there has been no legislation that has changed the current posture of the climate involved with gambling here in Thailand at this time.

That stated, I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Rich couple arrested for operating gambling, pornography websites. Quoting directly: "Crime Suppression Division Police have arrested a wealthy computer programmer, his actress wife and another man for allegedly operating a major gambling website and a pornographic website." Now those who are watching this video, I urge you to go read that article in detail. A ton of further information in there but that excerpt is enough for me to discuss what I want to discuss on here which is yeah folks, gambling is still illegal here. Notwithstanding we have seen some major discussions at very high levels especially in the legislative sphere associated with the possibility of legalization of gambling in some form. By gambling let me be clear what I mean, I mean what people think of - casino style gambling, slot machines, games of chance, this kind of thing.

Thailand currently does allow horse racing, there can be gambling associated with horse racing under certain circumstances; there is currently a lottery system and depending on circumstances, there may be some wagering activities it is my understanding, associated with Muay Thai, again but it is venue specific, it is circumstance specific and again we are not talking about casinos. We are not talking about what people think of when they think of gambling and card games and dice games and slot machines, no we are talking about pretty rudimentary stuff again, again lottery tickets, horse racing, that is what is currently legal in Thailand or as of the time of this video.

That may change but be advised, please note, it hasn't changed yet so until it does you could be arrested and possibly face severe criminal penalties associated with gambling or gambling activity here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
