Do I Need a Real Estate Agent in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the notion of whether or not one needs a Real Estate Agent in Thailand. I have to say from experience there are really, really good Real Estate Agents and there are some not so great Real Estate Agents. The good ones are great and they can be really, really useful to folks; the bad ones such as they are can be a real problem.

One of the biggest issues I see involving Real Estate Agents oftentimes is sometimes they may not fully have exclusively the best interest of the person that thinks they have their best interests at heart. So, in a sense playing both sides against the middle. In a way facilitating the transaction is a Real Estate Agent’s job so I do get that but more the trouble is oftentimes they may hold himself out intentionally or it may be unintentional on the part of the foreigner; they may think that this person is like a lawyer when in fact they oftentimes aren't or they aren't acting in that capacity. That can lead to a lot of confusion and consternation. So again yeah a Real Estate Agent can be very useful. We deal with them rather frequently when we are dealing with property matters including conveyancing and they can be very, very useful. In fact the vast majority of Real Estate Agents I think are great. The problem ones unfortunately give all Real Estate Agents kind of a bad name so it is going to depend on your circumstances. Obviously you are always going to want to deal with people with whom you feel comfortable so again that is going to colour the analysis regarding any specific Agent.

So the thing to take away from this video is yes they can be very useful but just be careful and understand that there are situations where it is not the most optimal relationship.
