As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing silver here in Thailand. I often discuss Thai gold and gold generally on this channel. I am something of a gold bug but today we are going to be talking about silver just a brief bit, because you know, when you are talking gold you tend to talk silver, so here we go. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel. Quoting directly: "I was surprised there isn't any market for silver specifically bullion or coins. There are only a few jewelry and sterling silver shops dotted around." 

Yeah a big reason for that could be the fact that Thai gold particularly is not subject to VAT. So gold in Thailand doesn't have the same VAT requirements as does other products and this probably has a lot to do with why the Thailand gold market is the way it is and why there virtually is no silver market here in Thailand; there really isn't. Yeah, as the commenter noted, jewelry stores you will see some sterling silver, jewelry stores.  Occasionally you might find some coins or things hanging around like an antique shop or something but generally speaking no, silver does not have nearly the same demand for it in this jurisdiction; again I think a lot of it comes down to tax policy. 

Again Thai gold is highly fungible, very, very fungible in terms of being able to buy gold just sort of on the spot, cash on the barrel in a gold shop and be able to sell it back again cash on the barrel in a gold shop. You can't really do that with silver; there's nothing that is equivalent in terms of silver with regard to that. So that may explain why you don't see nearly the number of silver shops or silver on sale when you compare it to Gold here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
