When Should I Write a Will in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are posing the question "when should I write a Will in Thailand?"

Well again everybody's situation is going to be different but if you are living in Thailand and you have property in Thailand and especially if you have a loved one in Thailand either of Thai nationality or not, or you have loved ones who may not live in Thailand but you wish to have them benefit from your estate in the event of your demise, quite honestly sooner rather than later is a good idea with respect to writing a Will.

Again different people's cases are going to be different; I mean I hate to be redundant there but that's a fact. Specific facts, you may be wanting to organize your estate in such a way before writing a Will. But that being said, for the most part Will drafting unlike other parts of estate planning is fairly straightforward. I mean basically you know what stuff you want to bequeath or maybe you want everything to go to a specific person and you just want that in place to make sure that happens. Again this can be especially of concern to those who are not legally married to their loved one. For example here in Thailand, we have seen a lot of estate planning matters have to be dealt with especially in the same sex couple type of scenario where they couldn't legally get married -  looks like that's going to be changing here relatively quickly here in Thailand, but that said again the principles still hold true. If you are not legally married you want to make sure that somebody that you care about gains access to your property in the event of your demise, again a Will is going to be the best way to do that and again when is the best time to write that? Yeah it's going to be circumstantially dependent, but that's said, in most cases if you're thinking about it sooner is probably better than later.
