Four "Key Conditions" Regarding Thai-Khmer Border Mediation?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing some key conditions if you will regarding the Thai-Khmer border situation or mediation regarding it. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: PM sets terms for Trump.
So apparently, and I urge those who are watching this video, go check out that article in the Bangkok Post for more information, but apparently Mr. Trump has said that he wants to mediate like a peace deal between Thailand and Cambodia, which per se I am not necessarily against. I think that there was some talk in that article about excluding China from the matter; you won't hear any complaints for me on that one. That said, there seems to also be some sort of desire for a Nobel Peace prize for Mr. Trump in all of this which, whatever. That would be fine, I don't see any problem with that. That said, at the end of the day it comes down to in my mind what is going to be best for the region and the parties involved, and obviously my biases are going to be with Thailand, and I want to see that Thailand's sovereignty is maintained and that things are maintained here in the way we have become accustomed to them and I certainly don't want to see Thailand continue to be subject of attack. That said, it seems that the Prime Minister has his own thoughts on this. Again quoting further from this article, Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com: PM sets terms for Trump. Quote: "Thailand has been the victim of aggression, and any talks must be based on four key conditions Mr. Anutin said on Wednesday." That is Anutin Charnvirakul, now the Prime Minister of Thailand. Quoting further: "These were the complete withdrawal of all military personnel and weapons from the disputed zones, the removal of all intruders from Thai Sovereign territory, the clearance of hazardous materials that could endanger civilians, and reaffirmation of respect for Thailand's sovereignty, he said." Yeah, I couldn’t agree more. Seems pretty reasonable to me too when it comes to this whole thing.
So again, those seem to be the key conditions as part of the notion of some type of mediation process. Again how this happens remains to be seen. The exact terms of it, whether or not Mr. Trump will be involved, whether or not China will be involved, all of this stuff, is sort of up in the air. My personal opinion of it is all of these outsiders should just mind their own business frankly, to one degree or another and let Thailand and Cambodia - two Sovereign Nations - just go ahead and work it out between each other. Frankly that has been working pretty well for a number of years, and it seems to me that when there is outside influence, that is when things flare up worse. That being said, it is one man's opinion.
However, it remains to be seen exactly how all of this is going to be playing out and as it does pertain to borders and Border Runs, pertain to Immigration and Immigration policy and as I have discussed in other videos, we have had a major paradigm shift regarding borders, border security, immigration security and national security here in Thailand, that is a significant development. But as we have yet to see any further facts play out on the ground here, we will have to keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
