ICE, "Ice Nine", American Economics, and Liberty?
Transcript of the above video:
So the thumbnail on this video is Agent Gaad from the TV series; it was actually on FX. Probably one of the last great TV series in my opinion, after Breaking Bad; the show is called the Americans. It was just an absolutely great show, I urge folks who are watching this video, go check that out. But Agent Gaad had this great line where he said, "coincidence is God winking at you". And I thought of that recently when I have seen, actually I just saw a recent video by Jimmy Dore which was made within hours of making this video, within a day I guess I should say. I will put a link in the description below to find that from Jimmy Dore. But he is bringing up the fact that yeah ICE, that's Immigration Customs Enforcement, one is a byproduct of the Department of Homeland Security which was created in the aftermath of 9/11 and the creation of all of the Homeland Security apparatus if you will in the aftermath of that, and Jimmy and I think it is Mr. Kurt Metzger which tip of the hat to both of those guys, and by the way Jimmy, big tip of the hat to you if you are even watching this. I know you are a big deal now but I remember you from the COVID days and we were out there in the darkness just trying to get information out and I really do, congratulations on all your success because it has been fun to watch frankly that somebody that was telling the truth during COVID really went in a positive direction in terms of their career.
That being said, he is bringing up ICE and the fact that this Immigration issue which look I think people that have watched this channel with any frequency over the past few years know, I am a US Immigration Attorney. Legal immigration I really very much believe in, but I had serious problems with regard to border policy, especially under the Biden Administration, where you just saw these caravans and things of people just hurtling through the border and it was just, like "what is this?" I made videos on that at the time. This ICE thing, it's one of these and this always is where I sort of pause and sort of look around and say, "hey where are we at?" is when an issue has me of not only of two minds, but in the extreme of two minds. I really do think Customs Enforcement, rounding up people who have gone into the country illegally, who just entered America completely in violation of American Law, flouting our Immigration laws, I do agree, there needs to be enforcement of those laws. Those people need to be frankly found and deported; they need to be detained and deported in compliance with US Immigration law. That's why we have the system there at the end of the day.
Now that being said, in furtherance of that objective especially in this digital era we are living in, there is a lot of totalitarian, Orwellian implications to that; Jimmy Dore gets into a lot of that. But when I was watching his video thinking about ICE, I immediately thought of something that another guy who is kind of out there in the ether of the internet or YouTube I should say, Jim Rickards, talked about with regard to economics but I also think this "coincidence is God winking at you" as Agent Gaad said, ICE and all these problems with - I think it has tremendous negative ramifications possibly for American liberties, the notion that they can just do these sweeping data, dragnets or whatever and it has implications for the citizenry. I get it. ICE has a function, and I am very much in favour of rigorous enforcement of American Immigration Law; I have been for some time. But we have to be very careful with this, because it can lead to serious dystopian problems, most notably things like the idea of a digital ID which I just completely disagree with on fundamental levels across the board, which by the way everybody said was crazy and, oh now it looks like that is exactly what they are leading us toward, as Jimmy even points out in that other video.
But that said, going back to this issue of ICE and then ICE Nine. This is something that Mr. Rickards has brought up with regard to the economy; I'll just talk about the phenomenon. In a recent article from Profile News, that's profilenews.com, the article is titled: "ICE Nine": A Dystopian Scenario for Freezing the Global Financial System - Where have we heard of that before here in Thailand, especially in banking? - Freezing the Global Financial System - Between Science Fiction and Economic Reality. Quoting directly: "The term ICE Nine first appeared in the 1963 science fiction novel Cat's Cradle by American author Kurt Vonnegut. The story centres around a fictional substance, ICE Nine, capable of turning water into a solid on contact - leading to a global catastrophe once released. The number 9 symbolizes finality or closure in some cultural interpretations. In the novel, it refers to a final, lethal prototype of a synthetic substance - later adopted as a metaphor for rapid and irreversible systemic change, particularly in economic contexts." Quoting further: From Fiction to Finance: How "ICE Nine" Entered Economic Discourse. Quoting directly: "In 2016, American economist and security advisor Jim Rickards introduced the concept in his book The Road to Ruin: The Global Elites' Secret Plan for the Next Financial Crisis. Yeah, I read this. It is part of what's called Mr. Rickards' - he calls it his Four Horsemen Books, Death of Money is in there, Currency Wars is also in there. They are great books. If you want to understand or have a platform for understanding what is going on right now, I strongly encourage reading those books by Mr. Rickards. That said, quoting further: "Rickards proposed that Central Banks and global financial institutions may have developed an emergency framework to freeze the financial system in the event of a major crisis. This plan, likened into ICE Nine, entails a rapid and widespread financial halt using aggressive emergency tools designed to suppress panic and liquidity runs."
You talk about this in the context of the current economic stuff that's going on here in Thailand especially in the banking sector, and all of these things associated with “freezing: accounts - Vietnam closed 86 million accounts. Then from the US we are seeing all this ICE talk like Jimmy's talking about with, look I get the underlying reason ICE is going after illegals in the United States, and I think that that is well within their remit, their bailiwick if you will, but as Jimmy points out, there are ramifications, there are knock-on effects to this because they are using all sorts of data surveillance techniques. I just feel like it feels like a Trojan Horse as well for digital ID which has economic implications as we have seen with the banking sector issues associated with “freezing” accounts over here. So call it ICE, call it ICE Nine, again Immigration and Customs Enforcement in their narrow bailiwick, with their narrow mandate regarding illegal aliens I get it, but there are so many ramifications to this. I am just hoping cooler heads look over this, prevail, and come to a consensus that might be a little bit more positive in the current state of affairs.
