Thai Army Concerned About "Illegal Border Crossings"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Army is now talking about certain matters pertaining to Immigration. What are we talking about here? Well quoting directly from a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, Thai army warns Southerners against illegal border crossings. Quoting directly: "The Southern Army Chief has warned people living along the border not to cross illegally into Malaysia, because authorities there are enforcing strict controls. Many local people cross back and forth to see relatives or conduct business, using piers on the Golok river and avoiding legal channels. Some Thai students go to nearby schools in Malaysia and some Malaysians make brief visits to enjoy the nightlife. Fourth Army Region Chief Lt Gen Paisan Nusang said residents of Sungai Kolok District in Narawthiwat province risk detention and legal action if they illegally cross the river, which marks the frontier, into Malaysia's adjoining Kelantan state."
Look, suffice it to say, when the Army starts chiming in on Immigration Policy, it's a good time to really look at and seriously consider what they're saying because the army doesn't mess around and this is a frontier issue, so it's something to keep in mind. So again, along the southern border of Thailand, it looks to me like it's increasingly tightening up in terms of both enforcement and probably in terms of surveillance as they are trying to look for people who are crossing illegally.
The point of this video, just in a sort of broad sense, never a good idea to enter or leave a country illegally or enter another country legally or illegally - I should say illegally. No different here in Thailand. Those who are looking to come to Thailand are well advised to deal with the proper authorities to go through the actual appointed checkpoints, through Immigration and do things according to that type of due process. Failure to do so could probably end up with people ending up detained, possibly arrested and again you are hearing this directly from the Army, so in my mind, take it into good consideration.
