Thai-Khmer Conflict "'Not Shinawatras' Fault" Says Relative?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are talking a little bit of politics but as it pertains to the Border. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Border row 'not Shinawatras' fault'.  Quoting directly: "Thai-Cambodian border tensions had nothing to do with the Shinawatra family, Yodchanan Wongsawat, one of the Pheu Thai Party's Prime Ministerial candidates, said on Wednesday, stressing it was due to Thailand's intensified crackdown on transnational scam networks. Speaking in a media interview after talks with the Federation of Thai Industries, Mr. Yodchanan, nephew of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, said the Government took firm action against scam operations, which resulted in a more than 40% reduction in such activities." Yeah, after they were there. None of that happened while they were there.

Meanwhile the title is fitting: Thai-Khmer conflict not Shinawatras' fault' says Shinawatra relative, should be the long title. Says your nephew? Okay, great, I'm glad to hear that. So I think I'm going to make the thumbnail of this, a play on the scene in The Big Lebowski from the 'toe scene' where Walter Sobchak says, "that wasn't her toe Dude." And the Dude says, "whose toe was it Walter?" and it just springs from there. I just love the Dude's tone in that scene: "whose toe was it Walter?" Like in this one is, "whose fault is it then?" I mean so it wasn't the Shinawatra that called Hun Sen and told him he could have anywhere he wanted along the border, said all kinds of things that made us look tremendously weak? Or was it that same person who called him and said not to listen to the forward Field Commander because he was an "opponent"? Because that was a Shinawatra; that was the daughter of Thaksin Shinawatra.

Meanwhile, I did the videos on this, you had Hun Sen running around saying that he was wearing a fake neck brace and all of this stuff, which I don't know, but look at the photos for yourself; it looks as the kids say, "a little sus!" "Sus" to the point that the Court said, "Yeah, you need to go to jail and actually serve your time, because you did not serve your time."

All of this, I don't really love getting political but I have noticed that the media apparatus seems to just kind of let stuff just kind of get out there and just kind of slide without commenting on. So it's not the fault of the very people; a person that's named Shinawatra was on the phone to the Strongman, the President of the Senate, Hun Sen, in Cambodia. I don't have anything further; nothing further your Honour. I don't know how to keep going from there, okay?

Now it's my understanding, look I'm not trying to make this light, okay. This should not be made into something snarky or sarcastic or anything. Men have died at that border now, on both sides, for their countries, and the Thais that have fallen in battle are heroes. The civilians that have lost their lives - which everybody seems to forget about - when we hear all this foreign conjecture about what's going on in Thailand. Nobody seems to remember that ordnance has just been flying randomly across the border and hitting civilian areas apropos of nothing; it's not like they're aiming at something. No they just throwing it over the Border. They were back in the summer and that needed to end as Mr. Anutin has pointed out. I think in a recent article I read, and I'm not going to cite it, but I read it recently where he was talking about "hey this is about National Sovereignty. This isn't a business deal. We can't have our people being subjected to fire bomb attacks, just because they want to live where they want to live, inside of this country." It's just ridiculous and I think Mr. Anutin has the right attitude at the moment regarding this but this whole notion of trying to first of all, there was an attempt to politicize this in a very, my opinion, bad way over the summer and I brought it up at the time and made the videos, but just stop with it. Fault or whatever. I don't even want to get into who's to blame now. We need to just fix this thing, get the Border secured, move on with our lives. But yeah, I'm optimistic.

The ceasefire at least as of the time of this video appears to be holding. Thais have taken the positions that they have taken and they apparently according to the Government reports, the territorial border integrity of Thailand is maintained. So as long as that is the case, I think it's a good thing where we're at right now. Hopefully, we can get a sustainable peace hammered out in these initial border negotiations which may lead to some more sort of broad framework down the road. That remains to be seen and will be keeping you updated as these things evolve. But that said, look, yeah, I mean we need to be objectively honest as to what got us here. Politicizing this stuff too much isn't good for anybody.
