The US-Thai Amity Treaty Relationship's Long-standing Ties?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the US-Thai Treaty of Amity. Specifically we are discussing; well I actually was watching, it was on a streaming service, I was watching reruns of The Sopranos the other day. I don't even know if that is the right term anymore, the term rerun, it is really not how TV even works now.

In any event, I was watching an old episode of The Sopranos and there is a scene between Johnny Sack and Ralph Cifaretto where Ralph Cifaretto kind of hints at the possibility that he may make some kind of move against Tony Soprano. And basically Ralph Cifaretto says New York and The Sopranos have long standing ties; there are better ways of doing this. Basically he was saying we have a long, long relationship and just in the back of my mind, I immediately started thinking about the US-Thai Treaty of Amity and the relationship between the United States and Thailand. It was a very interesting, just thought moment for me, for lack of a better term. I guess I am kind of weird that I am watching The Sopranos and I am thinking about yeah, the fact that the United States and Thailand have this 200-year history. I mean we are about to come up next year on the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and here is Thailand and the US have had over 200 years of diplomatic relations and next year it will be 192 years of Treaty relationship. So in the time that America has existed, the vast majority of it they have had a treaty alliance relationship with, or we have had a Treaty Alliance relationship with Thailand; something interesting.

For those who are unaware, this is not an insignificant thing. Americans who wish to do business here in Thailand can benefit greatly by the provisions of the US-Thai Treaty of Amity most notably American businesses in Thailand can gain a Treaty Certificate so Americans can own 100% of a Thai Company, notwithstanding the provisions of the Foreign Business Act here in Thailand which oftentimes requires folks of other nationalities to set up under a 49/51 structure in favour of a Thai primary shareholder.

So again, this is not an insignificant thing. It is a significant benefit to Americans, especially those Americans who wish to set up a small company here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
