"24-Hour Automated" Immigration Checkpoints in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are, well we're discussing Immigration Checkpoints in Thailand, specifically 24-hour automated immigration checkpoints. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Thai Enquirer, that is thaienquirer.com, this is actually over on the Thai Enquirer posting on X @ThaiEnquirer. Quoting directly: "Don Mueang International Airport Launches 24-hour Automated Passport Control for Departures. Immigration at Don Mueang International Airport has officially launched Automated Border Control passport gates for departing passengers, aiming to reduce queues and improve travel convenience."

Yeah, so what we are looking at now is it's going to be possible when even foreigners depart Thailand they can go through these automated gates and that is going to take pressure off of the Officers that actually have to man the Immigration Checkpoint lines. Basically not having to process out departures means there are more of those folk to be able to handle inbound arrivals which I would imagine would result in a decreasing of the wait time associated with getting into Thailand, to say to least.

That said, quoting further: "After a trial period in mid-February, the system is now fully operational. The ABC gates are currently open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with 24-hour service set to begin on March 5. Authorities are also installing additional machines to reach a total of 31 ABC Gates across the airport by April." Again, I have to imagine this will just increase efficiency especially with inbound passengers, because no longer do they have to scrutinize every little thing associated with outbound departures. It also remains to be seen, if this will make things like overstay more streamlined, like dealing with it, insofar as you are just on your way out and they know you are on overstay and you just deal with fines and things. I am making another video contemporaneously with this one where I discuss tax, as well as Immigration, as well as banking implications associated with immigration checkpoints moving forward. I urge those who are watching this video, go check out that one over on our channel as and when it comes up.

But that said, the point of this video is purely just from the Thailand travel news standpoint. Yes, it looks like they are going to be rolling out 24-hour automated immigration checkpoints. I suspect after Don Mueang this will branch out to other airports as well as Immigration Checkpoints countrywide. I would expect over the course the next couple of years we will see this roll out across the entire country. From that point forward I would imagine that Immigration Checkpoints become almost presumptively automated thereafter, again on the departure side. On the arrival side probably not so much. I expect that human screening is still going to be required for that for some time to come. That being said, we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
