49 and "On the Line" for a Thai Retirement Visa?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well it might not be super clear, we are discussing Retirement Visas but we are talking about 49 and what I call "on the line".
So what are we talking about here? Well 50 is the threshold, you have to be 50 years old to obtain either an O-A or an O Retirement Visa for Thailand so generally speaking that is kind of the cut off when we look at standard Retirement Visas here in Thailand and 49 is what I sort of call "on the line". You will see a lot of folks out here that due to whatever reason, they are able to retire at a relatively young age comparatively or they may be doing other things outside of Thailand but they like to come to Thailand to relax and they are looking for a long-term Visa. Well the Retirement Visa is often the easiest thing to do especially, well it is not necessarily the easiest because whatever is easy in Thailand these days, but straightforward might be the best word for it. It is more straightforward than any other options. You see a lot of folks that they are 49 years old and 8 months and they are sitting around waiting to be 50 so they can be in retiree status. Sometimes I even deal with 49 and a little bit younger and what do you do with folks that are in that position? Oftentimes, we are able to find solutions for folks, we are able to get them some kind of visa to keep them in status here in Thailand. We want to make sure that their intentions and they are here lawfully obviously, we want to make sure their intentions are in line with their status, but honestly maintaining some sort of Non-Immigrant status or tourist status that is essentially similar to retirement status, it may be devised; we may be able to find a solution for that to get somebody up over the 50 mark and then get them into Thai Retirement status.
Again, it's going to be circumstantially dependent so those who are in this position, it may not be a terrible idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
