6,077 Random "Visa Checks" Conducted By Thai Immigration?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing random visa checks in Thailand. What are we talking about here? I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Phuket Immigration crackdown results in 188 arrests in one year. Quoting directly: "The Phuket Office of the Immigration Bureau has entered its second year of the "Crime Free Phuket" campaign with the arrest of a foreign man on overstay charges this Saturday (Nov 4). In the previous 12 months of the campaign, there were 188 arrests, with 66 of them on overstay charges."
Now more relevant to the title of this video, quoting further: "The statistics cover the 12-month period from November 1, 2022 (Thailand's reopening date) through October 31, 2023. Phuket Immigration's activities during this period included:
- Visiting 6,077 target locations for Visa checks.
So again, down in Phuket there appears, and again as we discussed another videos, different local Immigration Offices are going to take different tactics, different approaches, they are going to have different administrative rules pertaining to Immigration within their sort of bailiwick if you will. So understand that when we are talking about Phuket, this may not necessarily be a phenomenon that spreads nationwide but it is worth noting because we have seen other trends in Phuket go nationwide. So that is one of the reasons for bringing it up but yeah I thought that was pretty staggering. Over the course of the past year there have been 6,077 Visa checks at, as they say, "target locations". Now exactly how that works, if there are like checkpoints, if they were at Immigration or they saw people at given areas, maybe functions or like concerts or something, large gatherings and they were checking visas, I don't know, but 6,077 times is a lot when you consider that we are talking simply about Phuket and we are talking about only the past year.
So again, I think it is safe to say as we have discussed on this channel, Thai Immigration is taking a much more proactive role if you will; they are being much more proactive in enforcing Thai Immigration Law.
