ALERT: "'Arrest, Fine, Deport' Campaign" for Thai Work Permit Violations?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing ‘Arrest, Fine, Deport’ Campaign. For those who may recall, we had the "Good Guys in, Bad Guys out" some years back, and every once in a while, they come up with these nicknames and things, or slogans for these operations that they're doing, but it looks like they're pretty serious about Work Permit violations here in Thailand and that's the reason for the video.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Nation, that is nationthailand.com, the article is titled: Thai Authorities crack down on schools employing foreigners illegally. Quoting directly: "The Labour Ministry launches 'Arrest, Fine, Deport' campaign: offenders face up to 200,000 baht in fines, jail time and a 3-year hiring ban. Schools and educational institutes will face hefty fines, and their Executives may land in jail if they are found hiring foreigners on Tourist or Transit visas as teachers, a government spokesperson warned on Thursday. To curb illegal employment, the Labour Ministry has launched the "Arrest, Fine Deport" campaign, Deputy government spokesman Karom Phonphonklang said. The crackdown targets foreigners working in professions reserved for Thai nationals under the Emergency Decree on Foreigners' Working Management, as well as those who do not have a proper work permit." Well my question on that is if they are going back and looking at the Emergency Decree on Foreigners' Working Management, would they be looking at the restricted occupations as well? Could all of those folks who have been operating illegally here in Thailand, acting like things like tax and legal professionals, possibly could you be being targeted by this new campaign by Immigration and the Labour Ministry? We'll see.
That being said, as we have discussed in other videos, it is illegal to operate in restricted occupations here in Thailand. On top of that, it's becoming increasingly clear that the Labour Ministry as well as Immigration Officials are key to enforce relevant Thai Law on the topic. Now I find it rather interesting and I urge those who are watching this video, go check out Nation, nationthailand.com, check out that article in detail. Again, "Thai Authorities crack down on schools employing foreigners illegally" is the title.
And again, this may have some more seriousness associated with it because it has to do with schools and things. I think there's a broader theme at play here and I think it's about the fact that Thailand is going to get serious, especially going into low season - as we always do - going to get serious about cracking down on folks both overstaying here in the Kingdom and working illegally. That being said, it remains to be seen how this will play out, so we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
