ALERT: Thai PM Wants Some Foreigners "Deported Faster"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well this is a pretty big video because I think we are starting to see, I have talked about it before under this Parliament, we are probably going to see something of a sea change when it comes to issues pertaining to enforcement of Immigration Law, and it looks like we are now seeing it. So first of all, explaining the thumbnail. One of my favourite scenes in one of my favourite movies, the original Beverly Hills Cop if there's a scene where he is in a Bonded Warehouse - I'll put a link in the description below explaining the scene - but he is basically investigating something. Axel Foley played by Eddie Murphy poses as a Customs Inspector and basically starts getting this Bonded Warehouse to give him information, documentation pertaining to a shipment and it's a pretty funny scene, but there is a scene toward the end of it, he is basically telling these guys if you don't do this I am going to get the IRS to look at you under a microscope etc. and then he just kind of goes, "hurry up, quicker" and it's a funny little moment, and I immediately thought of it when I saw this article. The article is titled, this is Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: PM Anutin wants foreign culprits deported faster.
Before we jump into this, really quickly I've had people ask us and tell us in correspondence, we appreciate what you do with the channel. We know you're not monetized. I don't necessarily need to avail myself of a law firm at this time, is there anything we can do to support you? Well links are in the description below, my better half and I set up a restaurant here in downtown Bangkok. The name is Pancake Palace, as the name implies, it's breakfast anytime, as well as American Diner style food: "We've got hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chilli dogs; we've got chicken wings, buffalo wings. We've also got grilled cheese sandwiches, and we have got glass bottled coke; we also have potato salad, pork chops, all kinds of good stuff. If you like American food, if you like breakfast and we also have an English breakfast also for the British out there. So if you like American Diner style food, please feel free to check us out. Links in the description below.
That said, jumping into this article: "Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered legal amendments to speed up the deportation of foreign criminals to prevent them from repeating their offenses in Thailand, according to a Government Spokesperson. Prime Minister Anutin has assigned Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt, the Immigration Bureau and the Ministry of Interior to draw up amendments to the Immigration Law and related regulations to speed up deportations." Quoting further: "Rachada Dhnadirek said after the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. According to Ms. Rachada, the Prime Minister told the Cabinet meeting that although foreign corporates are being arrested and prosecuted, the deportation process was time-consuming." Quoting further: "Once the local criminal charges have been dealt with, foreigners ordered deported will be taken to an Immigration Detention Centre until the order is carried out. The Prime Minister told officials to prepare the legal amendments promptly in accordance with National Security, public interest, and international obligations of Thailand." As I have said in multiple videos recently, Immigration and now matters pertaining even to Thai Corporate Law are considered at a level that pertains to National Security here in Thailand. This is not something they are taking lightly. That said, quoting further: Quote: "Thailand is glad to welcome foreign tourists, investors and business operators," Ms. Rachada quoted Prime Minister Anutin as saying in the Cabinet meeting. Quote: "For those who arrive and violate laws or cause damage to the country, they must be prosecuted decisively and deported as soon as possible. The Government has been effectively tackling problems caused by foreigners involved in transnational crime, call scams, proxy business, and elicit operations, the spokeswoman said."
I would also say can we also maybe ratchet up some law enforcement attention on just Foreigners Behaving Badly. All these weird fights and stuff is breaking out, out of nowhere, and I've noticed this past couple of months, people have been trying to kind of gas light me and say, "oh this has always happened. We just never had coverage of it." Look, we have had smartphones out here since about 2011, okay. It used to be a big deal when you would see a street fight break out in Thailand. It would go viral; people would be like “wow, that's weird." Now unfortunately, in the aftermath of the past year or so - and I don't know what's going on also amongst the foreigners out there - I get it, the last five years 5, 6 years since COVID, I haven't liked anything the government has done either. And effectively all of our Governments around the world treat us like criminals for no reason, so I do understand there's sort of a latent animosity just kind of percolating up in sort of the subconscious of many people out there, but again I don't want to see it bubbling up on the streets of Thailand, and it's happening a lot, it's happening increasingly frequently. I have to imagine these expedited deportation, this initiative will or at least should have an impact on that. That said, quoting further: "Police have said that foreign criminal suspects tend to be concentrated in major tourist destinations where they can blend more easily into expatriate communities and business networks. Authorities in recent months have expanded surveillance and investigative operations in several areas including Koh Phangan in Surat Thani, Phuket, Pai in Mae Hong Son, and Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan." Well again, it remains to be seen if anything comes from targeting specific locations.
I am making another video contemporaneously with this one where I get into the sort of the nitty gritty of essentially ongoing criminal prosecution, versus extradition treaties, versus deportation, versus what I can only describe as expedited deportation in the context of dealing with foreign nationals in Thailand. I get into sort of the nitty-gritty details of that in another video that I am making contemporaneously with this one, so stay tuned for that. The reason for this video though is, and I'm going to quote this again, the Prime Minister has basically enlisted and I quote again: "The Immigration Bureau and the Ministry of Interior along with a Deputy Prime Minister" to oversee amendments to relevant law pertaining to deportation in an effort to deport people more quickly. I have to think that with that level of priority and the fact that the Prime Minister also holds the portfolio of Interior Minister himself, we are probably going to see pretty fast action on this, and that means that folks that are engaged in elicit activity, illegal activities here in Thailand, it is probably time to seriously think about going elsewhere because if you are found, I expect in the future it is going to be a situation where deportation is going to be even faster than it already it is here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
