"All Thai Embassies" to Issue E-Visas from 2025?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, it looks like January 1, beginning in 2025, we're looking at a pretty big sea change in terms of Thai Immigration. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: E-visas from all Thai Embassies, Consulates from January 1. Quoting directly: "Intending visitors to Thailand will be able to apply online for an E-Visa at Thai Embassies and Consulates worldwide from January 1. Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa said that from January 1, 2025, the Thai E-Visa system would be operative at all 94 Thai Embassies and Consulates. Worawoot Pongprapant, director-general of Consular Affairs, said travellers will no longer have to queue up and file many documents at Embassies. However, travellers from some countries will still have to show payment slips at Embassies and Consulates."

So, this is a pretty big deal folks. We're seeing, it looks to me like the full digitization of the Consular processing system at Thai Embassies and Consulates abroad. So, this means it looks like it's going to kind of be the end, not exactly the end of Visa Runs, and to be clear as I've discussed in other videos, I delineate between a Border Run and a Visa Run. A Border Run being you just literally run to the Border, hop out, hop back in, depending on the interval of time you are able to do that in, and get new lawful status here in Thailand. Then there is Visa Running which is going to an Embassy, going to a Consulate, outside of Thailand, getting a Visa and then coming back in. In the past, you had to physically go to the Consulate; you had to physically submit documentation, even physically pay for the process. These days it looks like, or beginning 2025, this is all going to be possible digitally. Now how exactly this works at every Consulate and Embassy is probably going to differ a little bit. As noted within that article, some Embassies may require that you show proof of payment. Meanwhile it may be fully digitized at other locations, so you may not have to do that.

Again, it's going to depend, and I expect as this rolls out in 2025, there will be a little glitches, little hiccups that have to be smoothed over as we start to get used to this new system. So, we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
