Are Border Runs to Laos Possible?

Transcript of the above video:

It seems like quite a long time that we have ever even talked about Border Runs but I decided to go ahead and make this video because I know this is kind of an issue for a lot of different folks especially as we are seeing these "COVID Visas" come to an end. The sort of extensions of stay just basically citing COVID where folks could continue to get extensions. Those are ending, we are dealing with the end of that in March. I have had some folks contact me about "Oh, are Border Runs possible?

What I will preface this video with by saying is the Border run as you knew it back in quarter one of March 2020 and before, is not currently on the cards presently. Now that stated, it may be possible for example to go into Laos. I recently came upon some information from onlinevisa.com, Laos to reopen for tourists from January 2022. Laos Border to reopen in 3 Phases. Laos will start welcoming back foreign tourists from January 1, 2022. The reopening will be gradual and take place over three phases throughout 2022.

Timeline for Laos reopening:

Phase 1- January 1 to March 30, 2022

Phase 2- April 1 to June 30, 2022

Phase 3 July 1 of 2022 onwards

More countries of origin and destinations will be added at each phase.

Tourists who can enter Laos from January 2022

Travelers from 17 countries will be able to visit Laos from January 1, 2022. Most Nations included in the first phase are in Southeast Asia and Europe, as well as Australia, Canada, China and the USA.

A complete list of countries include, in the first phase opening are: Australia, Cambodia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, South Korea, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam.

So presently as of the time of this video we are in phase one. It looks like Laos is going to be going into phase 2, beginning April 1 of 2022 and culminating in Phase 3 by the end of the year. So that is where it is at as far as getting into Laos. It may be possible depending on your nationality to gain access to Laos as of the time of this video presumably.

Now, as far as a Border Run, that would mean you would have to run into Laos and then run back over the border right, a practice that was undertaken by many not that long ago in grander terms. I mean yeah going back a couple of years it was possible this time 2022 although things were getting pretty hairy. I remember about this time here at the end of February I think around this time, Russia shut down its border with China right about now. Then it seemed to me just for my perspective the domino's sort of fell from there especially in this region. Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, they kind of started wobbling as far as border openings and with the culmination being everything just sort of shut down.

The thing to keep in mind is okay you can get into Laos but then can you just turn around same day and come back to Thailand? Yeah probably not because there are a number of quarantine requirements especially with land borders presently even more so than air borders or air checkpoints, or air travel. So long story short, the Border Run as we knew it, not necessarily possible. If you are looking for a place to sort of run to, to kind of maybe get your visa situations back in order possibly but I can't imagine it is going to be the easiest thing in the world to deal with Thai Visa processing presently out of Laos. So those who are looking; you have issues; your status is coming to an end, it may be a good idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
