Are Retirees Reticent About Thailand?
Transcript of the above video?
I thought of making this video, well frankly after talking to a number of clients recently, or prospective clients I should say, that are somewhat reticent about Thailand. Look, there's a lot of frankly nonsense out there in the press and unfortunately all over social media regarding how the Immigration System works in Thailand. Then on top of that, regarding how the tax system thereby interacts with the Immigration System.
As I have discussed in other videos, standard Thai O Retirement Visas to my mind in a vast majority of cases - and again you can't make a one size fits all sort of analysis - but in the vast majority of cases, I think it is pretty safe to say that the O Retirement Visa for a lot of people is going to be the most effective strategy of maintaining long-term retirement status without being necessarily exposed to tax liability. Now again, underlying facts in a given case will dictate whether there is some sort of tax liability here in Thailand, but it's not really a foregone conclusion and frankly, especially with American clients, but also with clients from other jurisdictions, we are finding a number of solutions that allow for long-term status here in Thailand without really needing to worry all that much about Tax matters.
Now exactly how you are going to get your visa and exactly how you are going to set yourself up with regard to your finances and stuff for your retirement here in Thailand, is going to be driven by the facts in your case. And for that reason, those who feel that they might need a little bit of insight, it may not be a terrible idea to contact a legal professional and thereby gain some level of understanding of exactly how the process for getting one's Long-Term Visa status here in Thailand, and mitigating one's tax liability in Thailand can be accomplished.
