Are Thai Retirement Visas Multiple Entry?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are asking the question, "are Retirement Visas in Thailand multiple entry?" meaning can you come and go from the country using the Visa or is it just a one-off use Visa, a one use Visa. The answer to that question, it comes down to what type of Retirement Visa are you talking about.

So there is a difference between the O-A and the O and the O Retirement Visa specifically - I know there's a lot of pedantic if you will, semantic discussion of "well an O Extension is not a Visa", yes it's a Visa, they are all Visas, okay? It is an extension. So an extension is treated differently than a Visa which is issued up front. In the old days they put the sticker in your passport. These days more and more, they are going to the digital but the terms are issued up front through an Embassy. That's called an O-A Retirement Visa. Generally speaking, those are multi-entry. That said, you need to be very and acutely aware of your insurance coverage associated with the O-A because there may be a different expiration date for the Visa -the ability to come and go on the Visa - than the actual date on the Visa because it may be dictated by the insurance policy associated with the O-A.

That said O-As generally speaking, they can be issued with different types of terms, generally speaking are a multi-entry Visa over the course of one year. In fact back in the day, if you came and went, you could get kind of a bonus year every year by timing your Border Runs correctly so as to be issued one year that went out past the expiration date on the underlying Visa. That said, we are talking there about O-A Retirement Visas. I am making another video contemporaneously with this one where we discuss re-entry permits specifically in the context of the O Retirement Visa Extension.

But the thing to take away from this video is yes, strictly speaking an O-A Retirement Visa issued by an Embassy or Consulate abroad, generally speaking is going to have a multi-entry component to it insofar as you can use it to come and go from Thailand during a given period of time.
