Are Thais Getting Tired of Foreign "Pranks"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing whether or not Thais are getting rather tired of foreign pranks. As the title and the thumbnail suggest, we are discussing Foreigners Behaving Badly in Thailand; we have discussed this at length in other videos.

That said, before I jump in real quick here, I've had people send us correspondence and things and talking to me and they have said, "hey, is there any way we can support what you do on your channel? We appreciate it. We know you are not monetized; we don't necessarily need to avail ourselves of a lawyer, but we do appreciate what you do." Yeah look, my better half and I set up a restaurant in downtown Bangkok. The name is Pancake Palace, as the name implies, breakfast anytime, American style. We do have an English breakfast on the menu. We also have American Diner style food, including hamburgers, cheeseburgers, buffalo wings, hot dogs, chilli dogs. We have also got grilled cheese sandwiches, tacos, pork chops, and we also have Coke in glass bottles. So if you're interested, please feel free to check out the links in the description below and drop on by and come have a look, come see us; we'd love to see you.

That said, I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Thai Examiner, that is thaiexaminer.com, the article is titled: British Muay Thai student arrested at busy Phuket training hub after harassing locals two days in a row. Quoting directly: "British Muay Thai student’s Phuket training trip spirals into chaos as police arrest him for a second disturbance in two days. Officers say he resisted arrest and tried to flee after already being warned over a bizarre doorstep incident the day before. A British student’s two-day trail of chaos in Phuket ended in handcuffs after police arrested him over a drunken disturbance in the island's famous Soi Ta-iad training district. Officers had discovered he was the same man warned and escorted home the previous day after banging on a resident's door and trying to take items left outside a house." Yeah, that sounds a lot like this stuff we see from the West where people run up on people's porches and steal their Amazon deliveries and stuff.

Look, before I even go any further, the Thais are not interested in this, and we are seeing it. We are seeing the evolution in real time of the Immigration apparatus as well as law enforcement activities associated with this. So again, I mean even before I get to the end of the citation, I have already got to point out, look, this kind of behaviour, I get it. In the West this is something that's becoming increasingly prevalent; it's not going to go down well here. Quoting further: "Police later claimed he resisted arrest and attempted to flee in one of Thailand's busiest fitness and Muay Thai hubs." Quoting further: "According to police, officers were called after reports of a foreign man sitting outside a house. The homeowner told police the man had allegedly banged on the door. He also allegedly attempted to take a raincoat and motorcycle helmet left outside the property. During those inquiries, authorities learned that he had travelled to Phuket to study Muay Thai. Unlike the later incident, police said he was able to communicate clearly. He reportedly told officers his actions were intended as a prank. Subsequently, he was handed over to investigators at Chalong Police Station. Legal proceedings are now underway." Yeah, and I'm sure he will end up with some sort of criminal citation, I would bet, due to the criminal citation because once you are criminally cited, you are therefore deportable; it may result in him not being in the country anymore.

The point of this video though, and I've seen increasingly videos across various social media platforms involving foreigners pulling all kinds of nonsense, and trying to claim it as some sort of prank or associated with streaming etc. No one is interested in it here, least of all me. But I'm here to tell you, I talk to Thais, I've been around here long enough to know, they are not interested in this stuff. All of this, it's not so much here but dancing around on train cars and all kinds of stuff in these Asian countries from foreigners who aren't from here, have nothing to do with this place, and yet come here and harass people and then say, "well it's a prank, that's all." Don't, just stop it. You're making us all look bad too; like all of us westerners then get painted with the same brush and "oh, you are all just terrible". I'm not saying we're perfect, me least of all. I've done all kinds of stupid stuff in my life, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I'm some kind of paragon of virtue, but I like this place, I really love Thailand. And I'm really sick and tired - across the board - of seeing all of this undue foreign influence. At the street level it's this prank stuff and then all the way up in the Ivory Towers we have got to deal with this OECD and the foreigners all telling us how we ought to run our banking system and every other thing. It is time for Thailand to take a look at what is good for Thailand, not what is good for the rest of the world. We are not interested in your pranks; we're not interested in you coming here and making everything worse. So if everybody could just chill out for a minute, we might all have a nice time.
