Thailand Cracking Down on Illegal Teachers?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing illegal teachers in Thailand.
In a recent article from Thai Visa, that is thaivisa.com, and they are quoting directly from Kom Chad Luek, which the website for that is: komchadluek.net, and they are translating this and providing it via their platform on thaivisa.com. The article is titled: Crackdown on Illegal Foreign Teachers: Heavy Fines and Deportation for Those Without Work Permits. Quoting directly: "Thailand's New Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin has demanded that the credentials of all 11,200 foreigners teaching in Government schools and private schools be checked out." Quoting further: "Should foreigners not have a work permit or correct visa type, they face fines of between 5,000 and 50,000 Baht and possible deportation. For teaching agencies that hire illegal foreign teachers, the penalties are much more severe. Agents face fines of between 10,000 and 100,000 Baht each person they hire illegally. A repeat offense then sees the fines escalate to between 50,000 and 200,000 Baht with the prospect of a one-year jail term and a three-year ban from working in teacher recruitment."
Now we have done some videos on this channel similar to this. Again that is thaivisa.com, the article is titled: Crackdown on Illegal Foreign Teachers: Heavy Fines and Deportation for Those Without Work Permits. I strongly urge those who are interested in this topic to go check out that article; a lot more in here, a lot more information, good insight. We have done some videos on this channel back in about 2018 when we were talking about the emergency decree associated with work authorization here in Thailand and there were a lot of changes brought online and as I recall, if you even go back into the summer of 2017 there was another decree, where they were really looking to crack down and sort of tamp down; basically it was migrant workers as well as just working illegally in Thailand and they basically beefed up if you will, the penalties associated with working illegally and with facilitating illegal work in Thailand. Clearly it now appears that these measures are being enforced more stringently and we are starting to see practical implications of this, especially in the context of teachers here in Thailand, at least for now.
Again we have done some other videos on this channel where Labour seems to be increasingly concerned with illegal labour here in Thailand and they have certain enforcement mechanisms in place to go ahead and deal with that. In the past you would oftentimes see the enforcement aspects of this dealt with under the rubric of Thai Immigration but we are now seeing folks dealing with this under the Labour Ministry.
Exactly how this is going to evolve remains to be seen but we will keep you updated on this channel.
