Border Running Using the DTV Visa

Transcript of the above video:

At the title of this video suggests, we are talking about Destination Thailand Visas and Border Running generally. As we have discussed in other videos, we are providing services associated with Border Running for those who are looking to maintain long-term status here in Thailand utilizing the DTV.

As we have discussed, extension in Thailand may or may not be feasible on that visa; things are still very up in the air, it is very spotty. Different offices are doing things wildly differently from what we're hearing. So generally, my best advice at the moment is if you're looking at DTV or you are coming to the end of your first 6 months and you are thinking about extension and things, my opinion is, at least for this time around, for another 6 months, I think it's best to take kind of a "wait and see" approach and just utilize Border Running because that way okay a year from the policy implementation, we will definitely know how things are going to look with regard to extension etc., whereas with a Border Run, you pretty well know: you leave, you come back in.

Again, we don't know exactly what the protocols are associated with that especially regarding adjudication of reentry as it is becoming increasingly clear that the Consulates abroad are doing some kind of digital system which may end up re-adjudicating whether or not people should reenter Thailand, although I don't exactly know how exactly that's going to work. It seems to interact between Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the TIS system - the Thailand Immigration Service or System, depending on what you read - how those two interact remain to be seen, if they are ever going to interact remain to be seen. What we do know is TM6's digital counterpart is coming online in coming months but these new sort of more overarching systems have yet to come online.

So my point is for now, with regard to the Destination Thailand Visa specifically - again as we are still finding out how this thing works as it evolves - I think at least for the present moment, Border Running is probably the more optimal option compared to other options under present circumstances.
