In recent weeks, the question has arisen amongst the number of people that we have been talking to and it relates to whether or not a Business Visa Conversion, so being able to change from for example a Tourist Visa, 30-day visa-on-arrival, 30-day Visa exemption stamp - is it possible to convert from that in-country to a Business Visa? Now again, I may sound like a broken record but yes it is fact dependent, highly circumstantially dependent; the location one is in; the Immigration Office one is using, these are all going to be factors which will contribute to whether or not in the end it is going to be possible to go ahead and convert into a Business Visa in Thailand. So you are in Thailand and you want to change over to a Business Visa, is that going to be possible? Again, it is going to depend greatly on your circumstances. 

But what we are seeing is more and more there is getting to be more reticence about allowing this. In the past, especially during the Emergency Decree era, there was a great deal of discretion vested in Thai Immigration Officers to allow people to change visas in-country but folks should not forget that the policy beforehand and presumably after the rescission of the Emergency Decree has always been that Non-Immigrant Visa holders should not convert in country but should instead leave the country, obtain the appropriate visa, return and extend. That has always been the rule of thumb. Now again, there are situations where exceptions can be made depending on circumstances but in the past, generally speaking, a Visa Run or a Border Run was almost always required. Now are we going back to that? It does look like some of those prerogatives are sort of creeping back into the system but as of the time of this video, it remains to be seen whether or not this is full-blown policy.
