Can Foreigners Please NOT Go on Drunken Rampages in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing foreigners going on drunken rampages in Thailand. Let's just dig in here. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Thai Examiner, that is thaiexaminer.com, the article is titled: Crazed Belarusian roars and charges at arresting police like a beast in the early hours of the morning. “A drunken Belarusian.." - and I am just going to redact the name here - ".. went berserk at a Phuket hotel, charging at police like an animal. The 39-year-old caused chaos, disturbing children and assaulting officers. He faces Court on Thursday while his family returned home without him". Quoting further: "A crazed and highly intoxicated Belarusian was arrested at an exclusive hotel in Karon Beach area of Phuket early on Wednesday morning." Yeah, notable here. This is not like some wino or something like on a street corner, this is in like kind of exclusive, for lack of better term, posh place here. Quoting through: "He faces charges of assaulting police officers. He is due in court on Thursday after assaulting police during a drunken rampage. For a number of minutes, police and security guards tried in vain to restrain and arrest the tourist. At certain times, he threw off officers and seemingly charged at them, roaring fiercely like an animal. The Belarusian was dressed only in his underpants as he tore around the grounds and struggled with arresting officers."
So I urge those, as usual, who are watching this video those folks were watching go check out that article in the Thai Examiner in detail, thaiexaminer.com. One final part though that I thought was just kind of an odd little nuance to this, quoting directly: "Later in the day, his wife and family visited him at the local police station. Afterwards, they departed for Belarus." You know I don't know what exactly is going on here, but I guess the point of the video is we all like to have a good time. I'll be the first to admit I have done things that I'm not particularly proud of when I've had a few too many drinks in the past, and maybe the not so distant past and maybe the very distant past. That being said, I like to think I haven't been roaring around like some wild animal disturbing children or assaulting police officers. I just don't get it. Foreigners tend to come to Thailand - I don't know what it is - it's like they enter this warp zone and none of their manners and etiquette that they would maintain back home, they maintain here. And they make all kinds of weird decisions or lack thereof and end up in all of these really rather insane situations. I don't know what to say in this video other than maybe in the future, foreigners that come here, can you tone down the drunken rampages maybe just a couple of notches?
