Certification of Foreign Marriage for Thai Visa Issuance

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Marriage Visas and we are specifically discussing documentation pertaining to a foreign marriage which is being used as the basis to apply for a Thai Marriage Visa.

We have seen this issue come up a lot here in the past few months as we have seen the Thai Government's response to COVID result in a lot of folks being kept out of Thailand. Especially we have seen a lot of families that have been estranged from one another as a result of these restrictions.

One issue that has come up that I don't think a lot of people think about, folks that were married in Thailand, this video doesn't really pertain to you. Those folks who were married outside of Thailand, if you are married to a Thai national, yes it can act as a basis for a Thai Marriage Visa but you have to document that marriage and if that marriage occurred abroad, you have to get certification of the documentation regarding the marriage in order for it to be adjudicated by the Thai Embassy or Consulate and ultimately see a successful issuance of a Marriage Visa. Certification of foreign marriage documents can be rather cumbersome and it has been our experience, especially with marriages which were solemnized in the United States that getting that documentation certified not only from US Authorities but from Thai Authorities as well for usage in a Visa adjudication can be rather complex and cumbersome.

For this reason, those folks who are out there who are dealing with Thai Marriage Visas who have a marriage abroad, it may be a good idea to go ahead and contact a legal professional in order to gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
