Chinese Diaspora and Tourism in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Chinese Diaspora, I never know how to pronounce it, diaspora; the Chinese Diaspora, sort of the Chinese abroad if you will from China and sort of tourism in Thailand.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Chinese tourists to Thailand no longer dependent on air travel. A lot of information in there, a really good read for those who are kind of Southeast Asia folks, good information. I'm going to quote a quick excerpt here, I urge those who are watching this video, read it for yourselves. "The Association of Thai Travel Agents points out that the Chinese Government still bans group tours abroad, but that the rules are already being slackened. For example, compulsory quarantine on return to China is being replaced by home isolation in some provinces. In the meantime, most Chinese visitors to Thailand are business people, Elite card holders and Chinese Nationals with long stay visas in Taiwan, Laos and Cambodia who are avoiding Beijing's COVID travel restrictions by residing outside of China."

Yeah, especially Americans kind of have this monolithic view of China, the Chinese people, even the history of China. There are people of Chinese extract all around Asia. There's Thai Chinese, there's Cambodian Chinese, Philippine Chinese, there's Malaysian Chinese, my understanding Indonesian Chinese, they are all over the place. It is not sort of one unified, again monolithic group. Now yeah there is the nation state if you will of People's Republic of China and then you have got the whole One China policy with Taipei and Beijing and all that which I really don't want to get into on this channel, but the long story short is I really think people fail to see not only how big China is sometimes especially westerners fail to see how big China is but just how many Chinese folks are out there and how different; there's not sort of just one category called the Chinese. It would be like saying all white people are the same or something. That is not true. Yes there are Caucasian people that came from different places or they ended up in different places or for that matter all African people are all the same. No I mean everybody, yeah you can kind of and I don't want to get too deep into this, but long story short yeah it's not like one monolithic thing and in terms of tourism I think it's going to be interesting to watch as this zero COVID policy in China progresses, to sort of see if there's any kind of leakage if you will of folks again who are getting visas in these other jurisdictions in order to kind of be out of there and avoid all of that. So it's interesting, it's something we will try to keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
