Clarifications on 90-Day Reporting in Thailand

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing 90-day reporting, providing some clarifications and insights to folks.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel, quote: “Random question. With a multiple entry permit, what happens if you are out of the country on the date that you are supposed to do your 90-day reporting?” A good question. Often misunderstood when it comes to 90-day reporting is the fact that yeah, if you are not in the country, you don’t have to do 90-day reporting. 90-day reporting only applies if you are in-country. As we have discussed in other videos, if you leave Thailand at the 87-day mark, you don’t have to do anything. Now if you come back to Thailand, say 5 days later, boom the clock starts ticking on needing to do a 90-day report and you will need to do a 90-day report by going to Thai Immigration or dealing with things on line. We often assist our clients in doing these things on their behalf but you will need to deal with that for each successive 90-days that you are physically present in Thailand.

90-day reporting does not pertain to those who are abroad. So that is something to really understand. I know that is a real point of misunderstanding out there among the public that 90-day reporting is not necessary if you are not in Thailand. But again, if you return to Thailand, then the clock restarts; so it is not 90 days from your last entry. In a way, the way you look at it is they want you checking in with an Immigration Officer at some point every 90 days. A border run if you will, effectively can do that insofar as oh, you left and you came back in and restarted your time; at some point you interacted with Immigration. That is what they want; that is the purpose behind the policy.

So that is the thing to understand about 90-day reporting. If you are abroad, you don’t have to do it.
