As the title of this video suggests, it currently appears, and we have done some videos on this, that there is a committee or a special advisory committee perhaps out there that seems to be reviewing relevant Immigration laws, presumably it seems for possible overhaul of overhaul of certain aspects of the Immigration System.

To reinforce this notion, I recently came upon this article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Overseas Thai Embassies Update Visa Guidance for Foreigners. The rest of this is chock full of information. I urge folks watching this video to go check out that article, but these couple of excerpts I thought were interesting. Quoting directly: "The Government has set up a top-notch committee to recommend changes to Immigration Law from October. It is due to report in June. Leaks so far suggest there will be new set of rules for the super-rich and those with special talents. There will likely be an expansion of the four year Smart Visa to include more digital nomads." Quoting further: "The very wealthiest investors could even one day achieve Permanent Residency provided of course they keep on investing." 

Interesting that first of all, I think it is hard to predict exactly what this is going to look like even if there is leaked information at this point. Thai Immigration Authorities as well as policymakers generally, are always going to want to encourage VIP tourism or high net worth individuals coming to Thailand to spend money. That is probably going to be the case; it is like asking why water is wet. They are always going to want that. Do I think that there could be broader implications? Yeah probably, and frankly it is kind of overdue. There are certain aspects of the Immigration System that really could be overhauled and maybe streamlined a little bit more. Exactly how this plays out remains to be seen. However the notion that there is a Committee out there that is reviewing this, I think it is a good sign and I think we are probably, hopefully going to see some changes sooner rather than later in a grander census of things. We will certainly keep folks updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
