Could COVID Insurance Rule Cover Thai Marriage Visas?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing "COVID-19" insurance. I have done some other videos on this. This has really been a source of a lot of concern amongst the Expat community and I have gotten a lot of emails and things from folks who have been really overwrought about where all of this stands.

Long story short what were we discussing? We are discussing COVID-19 specific insurance and for those who are unaware, O-A retirees who are looking for this Visa abroad they do have to obtain COVID-19 insurance and then when they come to Thailand it now appears they are going to have to keep that COVID-19 insurance going in order to extend their O-A status. Now we have discussed this at length but in the initial article that was written on this, I believe it was in the Bangkok Post there was some confusion let's say, and in that it appeared at first glance people were saying "oh this applies to all Non-Immigrants Visas" and then come to find out that no this pertained to Retirement Visas specifically, not all Non-Immigrant Visas. I did video on that but I want to drive this point home so people understand where they stand at least at present.

A recent article from the Thai Examiner, that is thaiexaminer.com, the article is titled: Change in Insurance Rules for Retirement Visas After Some over 70s were Forced out of Thailand. Quoting directly: "Move towards health insurance for foreigners does not yet cover Business, Work or Marriage Visa holders and comes as Thai Authorities are looking at health coverage for an aging Thai population and the need to attract more foreigners to live in Thailand to boost the economy." So, as they say, it does not yet cover Business, Work or Marriage Visas.

So this tracks with what we have discussed with our contacts at Thai Immigration, folks we deal with sometimes almost on a daily basis. Yeah they have said “we haven't heard anything about any kind of ongoing COVID-19 insurance which is going to be required for Marriage Visa holders”. So at least for the time being, it does not look like those holding an O Marriage Visa in Thailand are going to need to worry about any kind of ongoing COVID Insurance.
