A few months ago we did a video on the possibility of so-called "Digital Nomad Visas". There has been a blue ribbon committee if you will that has been exploring the possibility of opening or creating new Visa categories for folks who wish to live in Thailand and it looks like we are getting another step closer to that. 

A recent article from ASEAN NOW, this is the legacy of thaivisa.com, this is ASEAN NOW, aseannow.com, the article is titled: Thailand Proposes 10-year Visas and Land Ownership for Foreigners Again. Quoting directly: "The digital nomads would need to be earning $80,000 for the last two years or $40,000 a year and would need to be self-employed or employed by a company overseas but which are able to use Thailand as a location to work from. They would be able to "work" in Thailand without needing a Work Permit. They would also need to show educational qualifications of a Master's Degree or higher or at least 5 years’ experience in their field."

So as I said in the prior video on this, these visas come with a pretty high threshold for being able to enjoy them for lack of a better term. It is not a foregone conclusion that one is going to be able to get one of these visas. I hesitate to use the term easily but for a number of people, the qualifications are going to be out of reach for one of these "Digital Nomad Visas". However, for those who may be qualified for them, it could be a real benefit. As noted, presumably it is going to be a possible 10-year Visa. Again we haven't seen how this is going to look exactly in practice so we will certainly keep people updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
