In-Country Business Visa Conversion in Thailand

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing in-country conversion to a Business Visa in Thailand. I have done some videos in a more general context talking about Visa conversion generally.

My feeling, and let me be clear, this is a feeling so it is kind of an exercise here in speculation, but just my gut is telling me that probably as the rest of this year progresses, we are probably going to see less and less favourable usage of discretion on the part of Thai Immigration Officers to allow for in-country conversion from another type of for example Non-Immigrant Visa or a Tourist Visa into a Business Visa. The reason I think this is because as the situation eases and as we see these rules be rolled back and the country reopened and these mandates be hopefully gone for good but on the ash heap of history which I would love to see, as this occurs, I think that that discretion is going to be less and less exercised.

The reason for this is remember, prior to March of 2020 the prevailing rule related to Visa Conversion was "we don't want to see you convert from like a Tourist Visa to a Business Visa in Thailand" or "we don't want to see you convert from another Non-Immigrant to a Business Visa in Thailand, you need to leave come and get your business Visa and come back if you want a non-immigrant:; that is the prevailing paradigm for Non-Immigrant Visas. I suspect that will come back. We will see that come back as the months progress to the end of the year and then I suspect in 2023, we will be looking at a system much more like quarter one of 2020 than what we have been dealing with, at that point it will be darn near three years. Just something to keep an eye on. Again these conversions could be an issue; I think it will especially be an issue in a Business Visa context.
