Crackdown on Illegal Foreign Teachers in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the fact that Thailand is targeting teachers who are working illegally here in the Kingdom. As I have discussed in other videos, teaching is one of the many things that a lot of folks come to Thailand to undertake, at least temporarily oftentimes. We don't discuss teachers at great length on this channel, quite honestly because their visas tend to operate in their own sort of sphere. There are sort of Business Visas and Work Permits associated with like standard operating businesses here in Thailand, and then there are those documents associated with working in Thailand, and they operate very differently as practical matter.

That said, I thought about making this video after reading a recent article from the Nation, that is nationthailand.com, the article is titled: Thai Authorities track down on schools employing foreigners illegally. Quoting directly: "The Labour Ministry launches 'Arrest, Fine, Deport' campaign; offenders face up to 200,000 Baht in fines, jail time and a 3-year hiring ban. Schools and educational Institute space have to find and their executives mainly in the jail if they are found hiring foreigners on Tourist for Transit Visas as teachers, a government spokesperson warned on Thursday. To curb illegal employment, the Labour Ministry has launched the 'Arrest, Fine, Deport' campaign, Deputy Government Spokesperson Karom Phonphonklang said. The crackdown targets foreigners working in professions reserved for Thai nationals," - I repeat that: "the Crackdown targets far as working in professions reserved for Thai nationals under the Emergency Decree on Foreigners' Working Management, as well as those who do not have a proper Work Permit." So again, this is about work authorization here in Thailand and it is explicitly targeting foreign teachers who are here and working illegally, and it's also targeting their employers. Now that's a big deal; that's a really big deal and I think that will lead to a level of deterrence we have not seen in that sector in a long time if ever.

Now exactly how this plays out remains to be seen, and whether or not we see more scrutiny associated with Visa applications and Work Permit applications associated with teachers here in the Kingdom of Thailand again remains to be seen, but we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as this situation evolves.
