Daily Limits on ATM Withdrawals in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing withdrawal limits. So for those who are unaware, if you come into Thailand - either with a foreign bank card that you are going to utilize through an ATM or you get an ATM card through a bank here in Thailand - you are going to have to deal with the ATM system, and virtually all ATM cards or the ATM system I should say, here in Thailand, has effectively a withdrawal limit on how much you can withdraw; it depends on your card. If it's foreign, generally speaking 20,000 Baht is going to be the max. If it's a domestic card, it depends on your bank but generally 20,000 is also the max but if it's a domestic debit card, it may be possible to go into the bank and have that withdrawal limit raised. It may also be possible to do that utilizing an ATM. I am also told, although I have never done it myself, it may be possible to raise that limit on your phone using the app.
But that being said, I thought of making this video because recently I lost my ATM card. I had to get a new one to replace it, then I had to have the withdrawal limit raised. We tried to do it through the machine, it didn't ultimately work. I went through a bit of a rigamarole with the lady at Siam Commercial Bank and tip of the hat to those folks, you guys really took care of me. Even though I was kind of frustrated, we got it done.
Long story short, and the thing to take away from this video is to understand, yeah there is a withdrawal limit; you can raise it but it ultimately may require a trip to the bank, to the actual Branch Office of the Bank in order to affect that change.
