Daily Thai Bank Transaction Limit News?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing daily transaction limits pertaining to banking in Thailand. I initially thought of making this video after reading a recent email from a viewer, and tip of the hat to you sir, thank you very much for sending this. Quoting directly: "Update on daily transaction limits. My daily transaction limits on an account well over a million five remains at 50,000, this for every transaction made outside of The Bank." Now this person named the Bank; I'm going to redact that because this could apply across the board. That said different banks have different policies. Quoting further: "My Thai wife's account that I opened" - and this person put it all in caps, “WITH MY MONEY, is under 400, 000 baht, but her transaction limit is 1 million Baht. Her account received this online notification on January 17 of this year." And then he goes on to say more about The Bank; I'm not going to get into all of that. But a couple of things there. The minute it went into her name, that whole "my money, our money, your money, welcome to marriage" I guess, that becomes a nebulous entanglement as we would say in sort of a quantum physics context. But that said, yeah we are seeing, it seems to me that these transaction limits tend to be pertaining to foreign nationals more than locals.

However, and this is why I'm so upset about it is this is how it always starts with anything that's ever done. It's always, "oh, it's just that one group; you don't need to worry about it." Then the next thing you know, every Thai is now going to start seeing their transactions capped. I've even received anecdotal evidence from some Thais that have said, "yeah, at this bank or that bank, I'm having these same kind of problems too." Now again those may be flukes. As we saw, especially in the fourth quarter of last year, there was all kind of movement to go after “mule” accounts and scammers and all of this type of thing, which I sort of question whether or not that really was all that necessary. To my mind, a lot of this stems from the fact that supranational organization known as the OECD, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and “so-called Development”; as far as I'm concerned, Thai development to this point has been perfectly adequate. Thailand needs no more assistance with development and it's my thinking that OECD should just go on down the road and Thailand should maintain her own national banking laws and principles, rather than even caring what a bunch of offshore folks who are just trying to exert undue influence on this country have to say. That being said, that doesn't seem to be what is practically happening. My hope is the incoming Parliament will see that this is not good for Thailand, and they will act accordingly. That said, I'm not going to hold my breath for very long, but that is my hope.

Meanwhile, we have folks who still are dealing with daily transaction limits, and depending on what bank you are using, some of them say if you come down here, jump through these hoops, you will be able to get that raised, whatever. I've also heard anecdotal information that Work Permits are making a big difference when it comes to caps on transactions, so that may have something to do with it. Meanwhile, folks that are holding DTV visas still can't even get bank accounts.

So banking remains a really nettlesome issue here in Thailand. It started in 2025; it's continuing now in 2026. Again my hope is with the new Parliament we will hopefully see some lawmakers who see that this is a problem and act accordingly to try to reverse it. That said, it remains to be seen but we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
