Do I Need to Get an O Visa If I Marry a Thai?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing O Marriage Visas here in Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel, quoting directly: "If you legally get married in Thailand, do you need to get a Non-Immigrant O Visa based on marriage?" The short answer to that is NO. One does not necessitate the other so if you get married in Thailand as a foreigner, it doesn't mean you have to get a Marriage Visa. You can. I know many foreign nationals in Thailand that remain in Thailand for example on Thai Retirement Visas rather than move to a Marriage Visa. I myself was on a Thai Business Visa for a number of years, got married and never changed over. I just didn't really want to go through the hassle and under my particular circumstances, it just wasn't worth it for me in that situation.

The thing to take away from this video is no it is not a necessity that one go ahead and obtain an O Marriage Visa if they get married, it is a choice. Now it is possible to get an O Marriage Visa once married to a Thai national. Basically the proof associated with the Marriage Visa is documentation pertaining to the marriage, the marriage certification itself, then you have got to deal with financial documentation: 400,000 baht in a Thai Bank Account for those looking for an O Marriage Visa or 40,000 Baht coming in in income on a monthly basis in order to meet the financial criteria. So yeah, the O Marriage Visa is a possibility if you get married in Thailand but it is definitely not a necessity.
