The End of Visa Amnesty: Thai Business Visas Examined

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Business Visas. We are discussing them specifically in the context of the end of the Thai Immigration Amnesty.

I want to go ahead and read a quote. It is from Thai Examiner, the article is titled: Visa Amnesty to End with 30-day Extensions on Application as the Focus Moves to Long Stay Visa Holders. In this article they go ahead and cite Deputy Commissioner Major General Porchjai Kantee and that is Deputy Commissioner of Immigration so when a person like this speaks, it is a good idea to listen carefully. Quoting directly: "All long-term Visa holders whose permits to stay expired after March 26th also must submit an application for an extension to stay from now until September 26th, 2020 he said. He urged such foreigners to hasten their applications to regularize their visa status," and now again quoting directly from him "Please contact local Immigration Office soon as possible in order to avoid congestion in the last few days."

So long story short, it is going to be a good idea if you are in B status or were when this Amnesty began and you have not yet regularized your position, I think it is a very good idea to go ahead and presume that you are going to need to regularize your situation here in Thailand; get your visa status corrected; get into long-term B Visa status and continue extending that status after this Amnesty ends. You need to get into long-term B status whatever that means.

I understand we have been dealing with a lot of corporate situations wherein rectifying corporate documentation, the documentation pertaining to a B Visa extension or a renewal of a Work Permit, we have been dealing with that a lot here in the office and if you need assistance with that, we urge you to contact a legal professional because I truly think, especially on Non-immigrant Visa categories, if you are out of status after the Amnesty ends you could be in a situation which could prove to be beyond repair where it may not even be possible to rectify your status moving forward and that is a really bad situation to be in because that means one could be in overstay which can lead to the possibility of arrest or detention as well as blacklisting and an inability to come back to Thailand thereafter.
