Foreign Man Arrested For Running An Illegal "Wakeboarding Centre" In Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing an illegal wakeboarding centre? Wow, the Thais really seem to be getting stringent about the things that they are going after. Well, as we'll get into here in a moment, Thailand it is taking work authorization very, very seriously and those who are operating without it, they are going to be subjected to not only intensely strict scrutiny, but they are probably also going to see themselves possibly arrested, even possibly deported.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Foreigners arrested for illegally running daycare, wake boarding centre. Quoting directly: "Police also raided "Back & Forth Wake Park which offers wake boarding services on the southern tourist island. A Russian man was arrested for illegally operating the shop, which opened in December last year. He was also in the country on a Tourist Visa." So yeah, this is about as far away from compliance as Thai Immigration and the Labour Department are going to want people. A Tourist Visa is not work authorized in Thailand.

Now there may be issues where you have work authorization and what you may be engaging in may bump up against things like the restricted occupations here in Thailand, that's one thing, but when you are just completely working without a Work Permit or a proper Business Visa at all, you are going to find yourself in some real problems as this person I think has seen. And again, it is not the subject matter of the wake boarding that alerted or took the attention of the Thai Police per se, it is somebody who is working in Thailand without authorization. I know I see a lot in the comments, people saying: "they only care about taking Thai jobs", no they, the Thais care about people coming to this country and working illegally, period. That's what they care about. Why? Because policymakers here in Thailand want to insulate their labour market; they want to take care of their own local economy; they want to insulate their own local workforce and not subject them to being overrun by competition that doesn't really know how it operates here, and more importantly, just simply isn't from here. At the end of the day, that's what it comes down to. I know it upsets people these notions, but look Thailand, it says the name on the door, it's for Thais at the end of the day.

Now that said, it is possible to come here and get work authorized and I suspect be able to engage in that type of business with the proper Work Permit but coming here and just completely disregarding such things and shirking it off, it's going to lead to some real problems not least of which is possible arrest and possible deportation from the Kingdom of Thailand.
