Foreigners Arrested Running Illegal Daycare in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing foreigners apparently running an illegal daycare in Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from Khao Sod English, khaosodenglish.com, the article is titled: Israeli-run Illegal Daycares Raided on Koh Phangan. Quoting directly: "Local authorities have shut down two illegal daycares run by foreign nationals on Koh Phangan, Police said on April 4." Quoting further: "The first location, a house in Moo 7 Koh Phangan was found caring for 13 young children from foreign families. Israeli nationals" - I'm going to leave names redacted - "Israeli Nationals, (name redacted) the owner and (name redacted) a teacher, along with Myanmar staff (name redacted) were arrested. They face charges including running a childcare business without a license and failing to report foreign employees to authorities. The second raid, also in Moo 7, uncovered a daycare with 10 children agency 2 to 5. Owner (name retracted) and local teacher (name redacted) were charged with operating an unlicensed Child Care Facility. All suspects have been handed over to Koh Phangan Police for further legal action. Officials stressed that unlicensed daycares pose risks to children's safety and that strict measures will continue to enforce the law."

So yeah, I've done videos on this before. And I get where foreign nationals come here and it's just sort of "oh well, we'll sort of all agree, somebody can watch the kids; babysitter kind of thing. Look, there are laws in Thailand regarding Child Care Facilities, and quite honestly, I'm glad there are, because at the end of the day, I want the people who are caring for children vetted in the most detailed manner possible. And I'm not saying anything untoward happened at either of these facilities, but at the end of the day, if there's going to be people who are caring for large groups of children, there needs to be licenses in place; there needs to be protocols in place to do background checks on those people, to vet people to make sure they you are not putting any children in danger, in any way, shape or form. And the other thing is there needs to be ongoing oversight. This is one of the few areas where as libertarian to the point of almost anarchic I can be, I actually very much sort of revert back to sort of an old school conservative law and order kind of thinking because it pertains to children. And for that reason, I think all due seriousness needs to be accorded to assessment of who is taking care of children.

Again, foreign nationals, if you don't have a Work Permit in Thailand, this is something to take away from this video. You can get in serious trouble for working in Thailand illegally. It sounds like possibly one or more of the foreigners involved here may have had that issue. But on top of it, it is important to understand Thai law enforcement is very serious about a few major things; one of them is the care of children. And they are going to be especially assiduous and proactive in not only ascertaining who is taking care of children or educating children - be it from a sort of an educational point of view or purely from a child care perspective - they are going to be assiduous in ascertaining who those folks are and they are also going to be especially proactive from a law enforcement perspective in making certain that folks that are engaging in those activities are in line with the law. And the reason for that is we are talking about the protection and the oversight of the most innocent and quite honestly vulnerable among our population, i.e. children. So for that reason, Thai Law enforcement is going to be proactive, and they are going to be looking at those kind of cases very, very critically. Let's say there's a high degree of scrutiny that is going to be placed on those folks. So folks that think they can just come to Thailand and engage in this kind of business activity without needing to go get any licenses or something, that's a very bad idea. On top of that, Thailand's tools, specifically the Royal Thai Police's tools including Immigration Police, their tools for now ascertaining who is in the country and for what reason have improved exponentially just in the last five years, to say nothing about Biometrics as well as Artificial Intelligence's ability to compute and collate a lot of data from a lot of cross sections of the Thai government and be able to ascertain where people are and what they are doing should not be underestimated. Thai Law Enforcement has the ability to ascertain who's doing what and in the event that they are doing something illegal, especially where it's illegal involving children in Thailand, Thai law enforcement is going to be right on the case, and you need to understand that before coming here and attempting to do business illegally here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
